Weller PTF7 Conical Tip, .8 Mm, 700° F, Black

works. Old 1960's tech.

Been using the tip for some years. Use a brass sponge from FRY's Electronics to keep the tip wiped clean and the tip just keeps soldering. The iron normally runs 700 - 800 degrees but I use a rheostat to drop the temperature to 500 degrees for delicate surface mount work as well as leaving the iron idle for long periods while other assembly takes place.

I ordered a nonWeller solder tip and it was wrong the unit overheated as the magnetic tip was missing. The tip is correct for the TCP model of Weller and it tipped up and working perfectly.

The tip broke after a few hours of use. I have others that have lasted years. I've contacted the manufacturer with no response.

Appears to be a genuine Weller bit which while expensive do tend to last longer than the cheaper alternatives.
