Wright-Sized Houses: Frank Lloyd Wright's Solutions for Making Small Houses Feel Big

This is a medium sized book with mostly color pictures illustrating Wright's design principles using examples from many of his houses. The numerous color pictures are attractive enough, and the few floor plans simplified enough, that this could serve as a modest coffee table book. I enjoyed the detailed color pictures of many of Wright's houses that are not seen in the classic texts. There are no mansions like Wingspread or Fallingwater in this book; it is about how Wright made normal sized houses look more spacious than they were. There are a few examples of early prairie houses but most of the book has houses from Wright's later period. The last third of the book covers notable houses in detail from the early Isabel Roberts house, to the Jacobs and Pope Usonian houses, to one of my late favorites, the rarely seen Zimmerman house which gets five pages of nice photographs.

I bought this as a gift for my HB ... who was more FLW books than I can count at this point. (Almost all of them purchased by me over the years for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) We're starting to run out of material! This book is significantly different than those that are focussed purely on the architecture, discussing much more about the materials FLW used and how the design elements affected living spaces. The photographs are beautiful and the text is well written. I'm glad I found this one!

Frank Lloyd Wright fans won't be disappointed. I purchased a used book because I love a good bargain and a "good" book should always have a long life. This is a wonderfully written book with great views of Wright's designs. It arrived in 6 days; which I think is timely and in perfect condition.

As one who is a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and lives on a small Bungalow home, I found this volume full of helpful, creative, and inspiring ideas. The book has many photographs which reference the Usonian homes of FLW and is filled with new interpretations for the homeowner of today. If you have challenges with space and want to get some solutions to your issues, yet keep true to your love of simple, functional design, this is a wonderful resource for you!
