StarTech.com 2-Port PCI Express RS232 Serial Adapter Card, PCIe to Dual Serial DB9, Windows/Linux, TAA - Replaced by PEX2S953

This card installed smoothly on my Windows 7 x64 system - as long as I used the PCIe 1x slot. Originally I tried to use a PCIe 16x slot further away from the hot video card (the 16x slot is supposed to be backward compatible with smaller PCIe 1x cards) but the drivers did not work in that case. The card did not make a tight seating in the 16x slot. But as long as you have an open 1x slot, this card should work fine. I've had good success with the StarTech serial cards and ran into problems with other brands in the past.

As I've bought many StarTech devices in the past, I know the brand name for a quality product. This one is no different. Works great, adding two "old" DB-9 serial ports to my computer, which came with none of course, to run some ham radio devices.

It works fine but, on my system, it would not be recognized by Windows (10) unless it was installed in the first PCI-E slot (the one closest to the GPU). Not sure if it is my system or the card so I took off one star. You also need to install the drivers after the card is shown in device manager. Comes with a mini-CD but the driver version was older than what you can get on their web site. Otherwise, pretty solid, so far.

Easy way to add serial ports to a new Windows 11 computer. Worked first try.

Linux drivers will not compile on kernel 6xxx. I use Linux Mint 22.1 and tried with Ubuntu and Fedora 41 and it still errors out when compiling with either code 2 or 1 no matter what dependencies are installed. It does work with Windows 11 but it is not what I bought it for so I returned it.

I bought it to support an external OLD USR fax modem. This unit does not come with or provide online driver for Win 2019 Server, BUT, the included CD does provide drivers for WIN 10. I installed those, and it setup the two Seial ports, my Modem recognised, sending receiving faxes, just as needed. So, Overall, good Job Happppy

I was able to get it to work with Windows 10 (one year old Dell desktop). There are Windows 10 drivers on the company website and it does list in one spec on their page Windows 10 compatibility, but not on another page. After I installed the drivers, I did have to reboot a couple of times because it was showing the hardware installed but not as a serial port in Device Manager and it finally appeared as a regular serial port. I could change the COM port number and it's working well for my purpose (Davis weather station).

Works just fine. I ordered it to connect to a legacy PLC and software app driven by Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. It wasn't the perfect fit for my application unfortunately, but again, it worked just fine and the drivers were easy enough to get working, but I did notice that the PC's Device Manager displayed a PCI Serial issue. Easy enough to resolve, by simply going to the manufacturers website and searching for the required missing driver.

Works as advertised. Used to update a Rotel RSP1570 surround processor that uses a custom wired RJ45 to serial DB9 adapter cord. Not many PC’s, even older ones, have a serial connection. Rather than worrying about hanging my Rotel during the three updates, due to possible incompatibility or processing issues, I decided to go direct serial to RJ45, versus serial to USB adapter. Select baud 115,200 and all went as planned. You will need a CD drive that is compatible with smaller format cd’s, but drivers are also likely available online or you can offload the files to a memory stick and transfer them to the PC you are using. The pin 9 power setting is defaulted at “RI” positioning, which means no output. Two options of 5 or 12V with a change to the two prong connector. For a Rotel update, no power to device required as it is only data.

I bought this so I could console into my Cisco switches and im happy to say that it works perfectly without a hitch. Windows 8 installed it without the extra driver cd supplied so installation was quick and simple. Highly recommended.

Excellente carte. Montage dans un PC tour sans problème, juste que le pilote sur le cd fourni n'a pas fonctionné. J'ai dû le téléchargé sur le site de la marque. Pour info le site de StarTech est super bien fait. J'ai aussi contacté le service technique avant l'achat pour avoir des renseignements, et le service m'a répondu dans la journée ,bravo à eux. Dans la boîte la doc est en Anglais mais on la trouve en Français sur le site de la marque. Certes le prix est assez élevé mais ayant eu des déboires avec une carte à bas coût, la qualité se paie. Je recommande donc StarTech qui pour moi est une marque sérieuse et de qualité.

Funcionando a la perfección desde hace meses, instalada en un Windows 11 con una máquina virtual con Windows XP y con 0 problemas.
