Great kit
My 9 year old LOVES Halo, and loves legos and mega bloks now. We've been doing a lot of the Halo sets, and I happened to see after Xmas that they had a bunch of them 40 to 60 percent off, so I grabbed a dozen different ones.As with all the megablok Halo sets, it's done very well and looks great. I used to dislike the way things were packaged, unlike Lego kits that have bags numbered and used for specific parts of the build... But I found that ultimately I like the lack of organization since now I've showed my 9 year old how to get all the bags open and start sorting out all the parts into piles so everything is organized and easy to find. I think that, for me, is now a bonus since he's getting really good at sorting things, analyzing different parts that have something in common (such as angled pieces of different sizes and shapes going in separate piles but all together so when he needs some angled piece, he knows what part of the floor to look for) and planning how to space them out so the ones he has to get the most often are within arms reach. That to me was like a lightbulb going off, since I was able to turn the negative into a great teaching tool. Especially with the large sets like the Elephant (almost 1300 pieces to sort and organize) and the new Forward Unto Dawn we have (that is almost 2900 pieces). For a 9 year old, having the colored dots showing exactly where each piece fits is great. It helps for the larger sets since it makes it easy to get each section done. He starts out intimidated by the sheer number of pieces, but as he starts he just focuses on a step at a time and has learned that large things are comprised of smaller things, and that if you take big things in small sections, it's not so overwhelming. Always an important lesson for kids to learn. No missing parts in this one (I've had just two kits that had a piece missing so far out of a couple dozen) so no delays in the build. Everything fit fine - which is something I've had issue with Mega Bloks a few times, where the raised bumps weren't quite formed right and I had to pull out a knife and trim a bit for a piece to snap right. All in all was a steal for my sale price, and we're very happy with this kit.

Dodgy quality issues, lack of any interesting play features, and an overall boring experience for adults and kids alike
First off, this is my very first foray into working with Mega Bloks. I am a purist and any Mega Bloks I generally come across are consistently plucked out and discarded. That said, with the price of the set and my 6 year old son's recent affinity towards the Halo franchise, this was a slam dunk deal. Now, on to the product itself. The initial aesthetic of the craft was the draw; its sleek overall shape. After completeing the build, this is what we collectively noticed:Cons: the blocks and plates sometimes don't fit together well, causing the ship to bow a little bit in parts, though as the build progresses, the sheer volume of blocks and plates mitigates this. The build technique is very simplistic. You basically layer on bricks and plates until you have a very SOLID mass of ship. The completed model is actually quite weighty and sturdy, with only minor gaps/voids in the interior. This is almost a pro, but the lack of interesting build techniques makes the build pretty boring. The bricks themselves have defects in casting, some have visible flash left over from the mold, or some bricks come motled and discolored, which is generally intentional with Mega Blok bricks as they sometimes have a swirl of color to attempt a "washed" affect to make things seem "dirty" but some bricks just had strange streaks and discolorations; which would not matter, but some of those bricks are "rare" in the box and appear on the outsides of the finished model. The stickers are misprinted, notably 2 of them that have a distinct right handed sticker and left handed version. We used an exacto knife to trim one so it would lie properly, but the other was basically running in the wrong direction. For a child, it doesn't really matter, but for more experienced builders, it's pretty ugly. The final model: the first thing you notice is that it is heavy. Quite heavy. There aren't many extra parts, about 30 plates of various sizes and some yellow "temporary" bricks, so it basically weighs the entire mass of the box. The stand is a great inclusion, something that I personally wished that Lego would do, though the plastic isn't very clear, mine had opaque spots and some streaking, from afar it's not noticeable, but again, to more pickier people like myself, it's pretty ugly. Though from afar, the overall shape is sleak and has some nice curves, those curves are ultimately formed from layering plates and slopes of various sizes and shapes so you will have some jagged portions. The cockpit is my personal favorite part, as it is essentially the only thing that makes the ship from being a solid brick block. There are no play features to speak of, no moving parts (at least not intentional anyways), the "cannons" are pretty lacking, and the only other noteable feature is the thruster. Simply put, it's a boring model. The purples matched with the dark greys are simply a little too dark and prevent any features in the model from really popping (except for that canopy).PROS: digging deep, my favorite thing about the model remains the overall shape of the ship.OVERALL: though a great value, the money is probably better spent on a different set. The build (for my 6 year old, and even myself) was boring; he complained that it hurt his hands, and I can sympathize as the bricks were ill-formed, it doesn't look very fun to play with compared to other sets, and the overall fun factor of all things combined, is pretty low. All in all, I'd say pass unless you were planning to purchase the set for the parts for MOC or some custom project.

Not easy to assemble . . . but ok toy.
I have four boys, the oldest is 21 so we've been doing this lego/mega blok thing for a lot of years. My youngest son (age 7) purchased this with an amazon gift card for his birthday. My 12-year old son and myself ended up putting it together and it was a pain because the pieces didn't always snap together that easily and the directions were difficult whenever we got to the darker pieces because the directions didn't "outline" them well. It's a great toy, especially if your kids love HALO stuff. My boys are crazy about this line of toys. My 12 -year old wanted me to give it 2 stars because it was such a hassle to put together. I think it deserves at least 3. It's still a great toy, even though we were unable to finish assembling the unit.

Price
I'm just a collector of these halo sets, so if your like me then get it. It's great and larger than I expected it to be. The only thing is that it isnt cheap to get brand new, I would recommend trying to find it cheaper if possible. But nonetheless it was fun to put together

Great for older kids!
I was really struggling to come up with ideas for Christmas gifts for my 13 year old son. Saw this and decided to go for it hoping he was still interested in construction type toys. Out of everything he got Christmas morning, this was the first thing he sat down to put together. He studiously worked on it for a few hours and then proudly carried from room to room to show everyone the massive halo craft he had just built. It comes with a "stand" so he can display it on his bookshelf like it is in flight.

Nice model
Good size but smaller than expected. Good instructions. Nice interpretation of game model. Ten year old son loved building it with some help to squeeze the pieces together.

A surprising toy
I'm honestly surprised at the quality and exposition value this thing has. I doubt that lego or even Mcfarlane could do a better job!
