Perky-Pet 517282 Copper Panorama Bird Feeder 312C, 1 Tier

I've had this for 7 months now and absolutely love it. My Denver-area yard is now like the noisy neighborhood tavern and the birds flock here in droves. I get chickadees, purple finches, blue jays and several other varieties I haven't identified. The blue jays are the most interesting. They are a bit too big for it but still come occasionally.I hang it from a pergola outside a window, about 3 feet down. I love watching it rock and swing and spin around as the birds land on it and launch back off it. They are used to that from landing on springy bush ends anyway. My main squirrel tried getting down to it from the pergola and gave up. He satisfies himself by cleaning up what the birds drop. If you use black oil sunflower seeds like I do, there will be shells, lots of them, underneath, but Rocky ("my" squirrel) cleans that up. The birds also will clean up the porch for you if you leave the feeder empty for a day or two. I have a pair of Eurasian collared doves that like to clean up the porch too. Yesterday, and this is no exaggeration, we counted at least EIGHT on the feeder at once. We routinely get 6 "at the trough" at a time. There is rarely a dull moment out there.More about the feeder itself - it's very attractive and excellent long-lasting quality - the brushed copper color is gorgeous and classy looking, and continues to shine without any help. The Plexiglas is clear and it's easy to refill. I thought the metal bar would be too slick for them to get a grip on but the birds have no problem gripping it. They will linger there and chew a sunflower seed open while I watch in fascination with binoculars. I've taken it completely apart to clean and it was very easy - it's a great and creatively simple engineering design.This thing brings me such joy - yesterday a big box arrived and my 17 year old daughter was excited to see the box - "What is it?!?!" she said. "Can I open it?" She knows we need a new DVD player and she wants a laptop for college. I told her the box was packed with great family entertainment! It was about the size a DVD player would come in. "Where's the scissors?" she asked. I gave them to her and she eagerly opened it and found (you guessed it) 20 pounds of birdseed from Amazon! The feeder had been empty - we filled it and literally within 5 minutes, there were 6 finches swinging on it as if they had been watching and waiting!Get one of these babies - you will not be disappointed. I crave family entertainment that is not electronic and this thing provides loads of it!I told my daughter that I've only once written an Amazon review but since I depend on them when I am shopping I felt a duty to tell you folks how much I love this feeder.

This is a really nice looking feeder and happens to match my house and style and feel of my property really well which is great. However, more importantly, it works really well! First, the spring push button cord lock style nub on the top of the feeder allows easy opening for refilling it by simply letting the whole top piece slide up and down the hanging cord, good design. Second, the smooth metal surfaces of it make it totally impossible for my local squirrels to get at any of the seed! It was actually quite funny watching them try the first couple days, as I have it hung from a 3 foot rising arced hanger clamped to the edge of my deck's railing. They would try and succeed with great effort to climb this slipper metal hanger and then jump to the feeder, where they would desperately attempt to cling on to it, all 4 of their feet running in place at top speed Scooby Doo style before sliding off of it. It's a short fall to the ground so they weren't hurt, so it was funny watching them since they were just fine :D They gave up quickly and haven't been back to even try again since, lesson learned! The local birds love it and have no problem with it, seemingly quite comfortable clinging to the rail at the bottom to stand and feed. It snowed 6 inches or snow the day I put it up and due to the ground being covered, I assume, they quickly found my first feeder here and actually cleaned the whole thing out 2 times that day, giving me a WONDERFUL show up close from my all glass deck door, seeing birds I never get to see up close otherwise. Great feeder, stylish, functional, squirrel proof the way I have it hung at least. Highly recommend it!

I have purchased this same bird feeder three times. What I love about it is the classic shape, accommodates lots of birds, and super-easy to refill. The refilling is critical for me because there is no such thing as a squirrel-proof bird feeder, including this one. I have actually purchased it 3 times. The first time, maybe I hung it too close to the trunk of the tree, so a medium-sized squirrel could, while stretching his body completely horizontally, reach out and grab the bird standing bar and pull the feeder towards himself with one paw, using the other paw to select choice peanuts and sunflower seeds, while scattering the smaller seeds to the ground. He could do this for hours on end until the feeder was empty, which was fine with me because - so easy to refill. Then what happened was that a smaller squirrel (child, sibling?) could not reach the feeder using the same method, so he attempted to scale down the cord like a fire pole and then started chewing on the metal emerging from the top of the feeder. And this is a well-made feeder so the metal was not the problem. The problem is that his teeth could chew through metal. Eventually after several weeks of that the mechanism to raise the lid (to add more seeds) was pretty much shot. So I bought another one, and hung it farther from the tree. That was a mistake. The squirrels could not reach it, and got mad, and during the day while I was out out work they managed to completely remove it from the tree, and it broke from the fall to the hard ground. Now on my third one, and I have it perfect. Too far for squirrels to reach but not in a place they can knock it off. Every now and then a small squirrel will somehow leap onto it, and hang completely upside down underneath, eating happily. That is the squirrel way. Anyways, hours of fun watching all the beautiful birds, and the feeder is quite attractive, easy to use, and a great price so I don't even mind having to have bought three.

This is the second one of these feeders we have ordered and it is a favourite for the birds it attracts, like cardinals, yellow and purple finch, black cap chickadee and many others. They love to sit on the circular perch and look like they're having dinner and a conversation as they eat. So cute. We do the get squirrels helping themselves to the seed and blue jays like to run off the smaller birds, but that's nature for you. The finish is a very shiny copper which glints in the sunlight. The whole thing looks great and is well designed and made of good quality material. The first feeder we bought has hung outside all year round for over five years, so that's a good long time especially as our winter's are snowy and cold but we always had birds coming even in snow storms. I like it as much as the birds do.
