New life for an old Dell B110
I was very reluctant to throw any time, effort, or money into a 7-year old machine that was obselescent at time of buy in early 005. This dropped in and posted just fine. I was lucky and got an excellent speciment at ~ 25.00 that was marketed as used good, but was almost certainly new - other. This processor also supported boosting the RAM speed from 333MHz to 400MHz, and of course, hyperthreading. This was added to replace an anemic Celeron 2.53, and we quad'd the old school DDR RAM from 512kB to 2GB and added some groovy blue-LED'd fans. An aftermarket CPU cooler goes on this weekend. They haven't made these for many years, so I want to do everything I can to protect this baby. If you have a Dell, it almost certainly has a proprietary HSF bracket that is incompatible with any aftermarket coolers, so make sure to pick one up. This processor also supported boosting the RAM speed from 333MHz to 400MHz, and of course, hyperthreading. The computer had been reduced to a dust bunny inhaler that was scarcely fit for even email or the lightest of web browsing. It is now more than adequate for browsing, video watching, and even Open Office spreadsheeting and WP'ing. Man that RAM beef-up makes save times for even (relatively)large files almost instantaneous. For less than $75(maybe up another $60-ish to $135 if I add a PCI rev none video card and replace the PSU), we managed to kick the replace-our-secondary-computer-can at >= $350.00 down the road for hopefully another 2 or 3 years while better technology becomes obsolecent and therefore more affordable. The kids are actually fighting again over time on the reinvigorated Dell, and it feels good to have saved money and landfill space too. If you have an old socket 478 machine, this CPU could really make for time and money well spent.

Just What I Needed.....
I had a older Dimension 3000 Dell and wanted to upgrade the CPU on it but it had a major problem in that the MB only has older PCI slots on it and no APG slots. Now short of buying a new computer, which the lack of money won't allow, the best way to proceed, if I didn't want to pull the old MB, was to upgrade the CPU and see about a PCI Graphic card to help the video out a bit. I selected this CPU as it was one I noted suggested for a GX270 (Which I also have.) but I wanted a bigger FSB and larger L2 cache on it. This CPU is a Northwood CPU and fit like a charm in the old Dimension. It really helped over the 2.8 gig Northwood that was there. I might have been able to drop a Prescott 3.0 gig in it but I wanted that for a Dell GX270 and this would make them both run about the same and this is what I was looking for. One might ask why brother? Well, I like working on older computers and usually save parts from ones I come across. This has given me two system both running at 3.0 gig with Prescott P4 HTTs and that's not to bad with very little money out lay. A good buy!

Good Enough For Now
Purchased 'Used, Like New', this item was part of an inexpensive upgrade for a venerable but creaky 2002 HP Pavilion WinXP desktop. (P4 2.53 GHz, 512 Mb RAM, 80gb hard drive, WinXP.) This 3.06 GHz single core CPU, paired with 2 GB's of new/old pc2100 RAM is as fast as it's going to get for the almost vintage motherboard.(Despite the claims of HP's website and Crucial's 'RAM analyzer', you can indeed install TWO one gig sticks of RAM in this motherboard; not just one!)The vendor from WA state shipped promptly. Item arrived in a thin paper box, on a small piece of anti-static foam pad, wrapped in several layers of anti-static bubble wrap. The unit had been fully cleaned of old thermal paste, and all of its pins were straight. The new/old CPU dropped in and fired right up after applying the requisite glob of new thermal paste and re-installing the heatsink assembly. The system recognized and accepted its new components. After adding a 256 mb AGP video card, This Old Desktop once again prowls the interwebs with noticeably improved 'speed', @ minimal expense. It'll suffice for a little while longer; at least until I can assemble a budget dual core rig from various 'pre-owned' components.

I've bought other processors from Newegg & had them come with multiple pins bent & be utterly useless. If it weren't for this processor
This processor is exactly what I needed to get my old laptop up to speed. It arrived securely packaged, early for shipping ETA, entirely undamaged. I've bought other processors from Newegg & had them come with multiple pins bent & be utterly useless. If it weren't for this processor, I'd barely be able to surf the internet -let alone play games I like. It installed seamlessly (with thermal paste too), & my laptop has been better than ever. 10/10 would buy again if needed.

Brought my old PC back to life
I have a PC that I built back in 2003. I'm still running Win2K on an ASUS Black Pearl motherboard. It was running great until recently it began to reboot itself. After scanning for evil Trojan worms and replacing the RAM, it still kept rebooting within a minute of logging into Windows. Finally, I replaced the old Intel 2.4GHz cpu with this Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz, and now my machine is back in action! No more frustrating reboots interrupting my work. I also ordered a new heat sync. They both arrived in less than a week. So far, it has been running great. So I fixed my machine, and got a little upgrade as well.

Improved performance.
This processor has been running great in my twelve year old HP computer for several months now. The performance improvement was quite noticeable over the 2.4Ghz that was previously in the machine. It is not nearly as good as a two core processor, performance wise, but well worth the investment for what it has done for my machine.

pentium 4 3.06 GHz processor
it came packaged really well as i could see i have no complaints about it, and the performance seems to be doubled from the Pentium 4 2.4 GHz i was running if you are someone who has a middle aged computer with the Pentium 4 socket this is definitely the best way to go about it.
