Used to hold straight razors
I bought this for my fiancée who shaves only with straight razors. He was looking for a decent way to show off his collection since he was tired of putting away his collection. This box allows him to chose which blade he would like quickly, all the while showing off his collection in an esthetic manner. He was nervous his blades would not fit initially, but they fit comfortable on a slight angle in each compartment. He particularly likes how the top is beveled in order to better view the collection. That is, you don't need to look down directly on the display box in order to see what's inside - you are able see what's inside the display from multiple angles.Obviously if the box drops, the razors will scatter since they're not secured down, but hey, this is a display box and not a protective box. He would have liked the black originally, but since it was unavailable at the time, he went with the brown. In the end, he thinks both boxes are quite handsome regardless of the color. It dusts nicely, too.He hasn't tested the lock feature too extensively yet, but he notes that it doesn't look incredibly secure. It seems more like a minor deterrent, but if someone really wanted to get into the box, they'd probably need to pry it open or break it. so I guess it does what it's supposed to. Since we don't have any children yet, having the razors and display case out isn't a big issue now, but when we do, we'd probably try to find something more secure with a better lock or simply not display his collection when they're young.

Works great for straight razors
I was searching for an affordable and an attractive way to display and lock up my straight razors (to keep the kid honest). It does a great job at doing just that. It's not a luxury item, but I do get compliments from guests when they see my collection. Here are a few thoughts about this piece:-- The locking mechanism works, but the key appears to be made out of plastic and I fear that one day it may break.-- The overall construction is pretty solid.-- The material on the inside isn't very soft or luxurious. If I had an expensive pen collection, I might look for something nicer.-- There's a ribbon that connects the hinged door that obstructs the view of the two left side pen spaces. I understand its function, but it's distracting when viewing my razors.Am I happy with it? Absolutely. For the price, it's the nicest way to display pens/razors than what I've found so far. If my collection grows, I may search for something nicer, but right now this works for me.

PEN BOX
This one needs to have been plant or builder spot checks. The locking mechanism didn't work when I received it and that baffled me for a few seconds. I took a better look at the Locking system which has a Key the is slightly Larger than a Police Officers Hand Cuff Key. The shank on the lid that slides into to the lock has a Hole centered in it so that when it's closed it slides down into the locking hammer. When you twist the key the striker slide through the shank pinning it in a down position. These are sent from the factory in my case with the Striker and Anvil off centered. If you lock the latch with the lid fully open you'll notice the striker is pressed towards the front of the lock. You can put a small screwdriver in there and pry it forward 1/8" and that should fix it.It's a Fixer Upper.,,, Mine was.

Perfect Budget-Conscious Fountain Pen Display Case
I was a little worried based on some of the negative reviews that giving this to my hubby, who is an avid fountain pen collector (he ONLY writes with fountain pens - can't stand to write with 'regular' pens) might not be met with accolades. I was happy to get one that wasn't all wonky - the lock, while ultra cheap, at least wasn't broken, and the case itself is very nice. The hubby keeps this on his desk at work with a nice variety of fountain pens he likes to use to grade papers and do any kind of writing - he loves being able to have some of his pens proudly on display. You can't go wrong with the price, honestly. If your budget is tight like mine is, this is definitely a great gift for the fountain pen lover in your life.

Works well for me.
Received the item a day late from the USPS. The pen box arrived in excellent condition and works well with my small pen collection. Lock works well. The ribbon that supports the lid when open does fold and block the far left hand pen slot with the lid closed.

This case causes a problem.......it makes the other cases jealous.
Due to this display case, my other display cases look cheap and dinky in comparison even though I spent more on them! For $50, this case is a lifer! For sure it will last as long as you want it to. Looks very classy. Beautiful to be specific. The band that keeps the lid open at an approximate 105 degree angle is visible when the case is closed, unless you make a deliberate effort to tuck it in between the lid and frame. That's my only complaint; but that's very minor at best.

Not super impressed
This box is average. The exterior is not real-leather. The material on the inside is low-quality. The locking mechanism works, but feels very flimsy. It's mostly for decorative purposes rather than functionality. When placed on a flat surface like a table or desk, the box can't stay in the open position. It's unbalanced, so the top falls closed. It's not the best product, but honestly I couldn't find anything better.

Classy pen storage box
I collect vintage fountain pens, and I needed a place to display them. The outside can be polished to a good shine, and the lock mechanism works fine, although I hardly use it. The inside has a velvety, but woolly texture, reminds me of shag carpets. The pens I store inside haven't been damaged or scratched in any way, but I really don't want to generalize to all manner and variety of pens out there.Overall, pretty nice, I just wish the velvet strap that keeps the lid from flipping over when open wouldn't fold over the first slot when the box is closed, thus partially obscuring the first pen from the left.
