One of the best hand tools in my shop!
This is a great saw. Because it cuts on the pull, not the push, you get very controlled cutting. So controlled, that I can cut miters without using a miter box. The saw has two cutting surfaces, one fine, the other a bit more coarse, The fine side is thin enough that I can cut very close to the edge of the wood without splintering the end of the wood. It has a long handle for one or two hand cutting and maintains the sharpness for quite a long time.

A great saw for the price!
Great price and as an added bonus, it works great to! I use this all around the house from just hacking apart boards to semi-fine wood working. It is easy enough to use that (with supervision) my 5 year old daughter can use as well (mostly because it cuts on the pull stroke). Works great to rip or crosscut, is nice and thin for minimal kerf, and can flush cut with the best of them. Just a great little all around saw to have in the tool kit. Some expectations to cross off your list though: it is induction heat treated so you can't ever sharpen it and it is a Japanese style pull saw so the teeth are basically not sharpenable by hand. Basically you get a replacement blade if and when it gets dull/broken.

I think for the price there is no better saw on the market
I think for the price there is no better saw on the market. It cuts on the pull stroke like the Japanese saws, has a VERY thin kerf, razor sharp, and seems to stay sharp for a long time. I have been able to cut dovetails with this and it is also flexible enough to flush cut dowel rods to your work ( although with some minor scratching that easily sands away)My major malfunction with these is that I keep bending the teeth from my own fault of dropping it or over-shooting my cut and hitting my clamp. Needlenose pliers and a steady eye, and it is back to being a great saw again.-bryan

The Real Deal
I first acquired a smaller Irwin Tools Dovetail saw from Lowes. It was simply the finest saw for small jobs requiring a finer cut. Since Lowes didn't stock the larger pull saw, I was lucky to find it here on Amazon. With this set, I feel like a professional since Western style saws just require too much physical force and often either under or over cut in the process. Extremely sharp and very aggressive tool for cutting precise pieces. Highly recommended since the saw rather than brute strength does the work. BTW, the packing sleeve showed the item as manufactured in Japan.

Good saw for a great price.
I'm a cabinetmaker...and I use saws like this every day. I've been using them for close to 12 years now. I have 2 complete sets of tools (yes, I'm a grumpy old fart) and I keep 1 set at home, and use the other at work...so I have 2 of these. They are invaluable because they can be used for a number of different things. The most important use is they are very aggressive. They cut far more rapidly than do Western style 'push' saws. I'd advise anyone who wants to use this type of saw to search YouTube as they are very different from anything you've used before. Once you master the basics, you'll relegate your 'push' saws to the hook on the wall...

Decent cutting ability, but questionable build quality
This cuts just fine, but the build quality is suspect and not what I expected from IRWIN as a brand. It's not worth returning, but I will say that if you are considering getting this in lieu of a Japanese pullsaw because this version is a few bucks cheaper - you'd be better served getting the Japanese saw. The plastic handle and blade mount are extremely cheap plastic and brittle, and the blade doesn't sit firmly in the handle, so there's a lot of play. The blade is sharp and does a decent enough job cutting, thankfully, but I have very little hope of this lasting for any extended period of time with moderate use.

OVERALL LENGTH is 22 inches!
IMPORTANT! The 9.5 inches long refers to JUST THE BLADE, the OVERALL length is 22 inches. While it looks like a good quality saw and could be very useful, it is more than 2x the size I was looking for so I had to return it. The handle appears to be hollow plastic, which was the only minor negative I noticed.

I purchased this saw for fine flush cutting
I purchased this saw for fine flush cutting, and have used it for cutting shims flush around a door. It has a coarse set of teeth for ripping and a fine teeth for cross cuts. It's easy to track with this saw as you are pulling instead of pushing, and it's blade is thin and flexible so you can get right up against a wall or door jamb to make a flush cut. If you are looking for a saw for this purpose and other fine cutting, the price is right on the Irwin Double Edge Pull Saw.

I bought this for making flush cuts and it works ...
I bought this for making flush cuts and it works well in that application. Blade is quite flexible so it isn't ideal for straight cross cuts.

Good saw, the fine teeth do break easily
Good saw, the fine teeth do break easily. Been using it as my main saw for a year now and I've have about 4 teeth break off, still works fine.
