Set yourself to soar with the Island Wings Beaver. It's an incredible model aircraft that shares its heritage equally with the beloved Flyzone DHC-2 Beaver model and "Lady Esther", a real Alaskan sightseeing plane piloted by Michelle Masden for Island Wings Air Service. Larger bush tires on the landing gear allow for landing on less-than-ideal surfaces. And by swapping out with the included floats, you can perform exciting takeoffs and landings from any pond or lake.Features: Water rudders on the floats provide control for water takeoffs and landingsThe conventional landing gear comes with big, tundra-style tiresA hatch on the bottom of the fuselage provides easy access to the battery compartmentWorking navigation and landing lights add exceptional realismAssembles quickly and easily, while offering flexibility on receiver, battery and charger optionsA powerful brushless motor, ESC and micro servos are installed to get you in the air quickerAuthentically detailed trim schemeConventional landing gear with tundra-style tiresSteerable tailwheelHinged flapsTwo-piece wing with carbon fiber sparsCarbon fiber reinforced stabilizer Specifications: Wingspan: 59.5 in (1510 mm)Length: 38.5 in (980 mm)Weight: 48-52 oz (1360-1470 g)Requires: 5+ channel transmitter & receiver, 11.1V 1800mAh LiPo battery & charger

Poor packaging, weak critical parts, but a pretty nice model.
Looks like a nice plane. I was hoping to take it out and fly it this weekend. But when I went to assemble it, I got as far as adding the stabilizer, and the elevator horn was broken off. I'd mark that up to three things: the piece itself is frail, for a flight-critical item; the packaging is just thin foam sheeting wrapped around the parts which are then just dropped in the box; and the outer package from Amazon consisted of two thin corrugated boxes twice the size of the box the model was shipped in, overlapped and taped, with zero inner packing material, not even those big air blisters or Rome peanuts. So I have to figure out how to get a replacement elevator control horn, or cobble something together from maybe a stronger material. You can see from the picture that the head of the screw that holds the plastic horn to the joiner wire is stripped out. Hope I can get it unscrewed. Too bad, I was looking forward to being able to fly it this weekend.I don't blame the "fulfillment workers" that slave away for Amazon -- they have their "metrics" to meet, or else. So packaging issues are common, since they have to fly low to churn out the mandated quantity of packages out the door. Too bad all us ordinary mopes can't get our acts together and build a better world for all of us.I'll add that the windscreen was not glued in place around most of its periphery. I have big hands, so trying to plug the electronics together and connect the flap servo through the tiny "access" hatch will be a challenge. I saw a YouTube video from a guy who had cut a much larger hatch in the top of the fuselage between the present hatch and the anti collision beacon, I may try that but it won't make hooking up the pushrods any easier. I may add issues as I finish up the assembly. I would note that Flyzone appears to have listened to some of the remarks on this product from the 'net, and shipped reasonably strong screws that did not strip out for me. I may buy some even better screws and replace them all before I finish up the build. And maybe the molds are getting old, but there is a lot of flash around the edges of the vertical and horizontal tail surfaces. I will try to sand it off, but that will remove some paint. Oh well, what do we expect for $170 these days?I will be trying to connect with Flyzone about getting at least a replacement elevator horn. We'll see how that goes.

Don't waste your hard earned money!
The wings on this look like they are from two different models. The right wing has a big bow in it and the leading edge is 3/8" thick at the smallest point. The left wing is flat with a leading edge that comes to a point. The control surfaces are not flat/straight, not even close.I have to trim the plane all the way to the right for a steady flight. Making right turns very slow and non responsive. It does fly, just poorly.I will not be buying Flyzone products in the future.Edit: I decided to give it 3 stars after a few dozen flights as I have had no issues with the servos or any of the electronic part. Even after a couple of slow crashes in to the drink where water got in the battery compartment.

This is a great airplane. This is actually my first larger size model plane and it was a little nerve racking on the first flight. Once I had it up for a few minutes though, it was great. Handled great, you have to get used to the slower response at slow speeds but that is to be expected of a larger aircraft. All in all, I love this thing, I would buy it again. Construction is quality for a foam aircraft. I used an AR8000 receiver and Spektrum DX8 transmitter, binded like a charm, reversed control surfaces and she was ready to fly. Good size tires has no trouble in relatively short grass.

Crashed on its maiden flight.
Crashed on its maiden flight. Went into a rolling dive and augered into the ground within the first minute of flight. I know the balance point was exactly what the manual recommends. All control throws were in the correct direction, and the proper amount. So was it a case of "dumb thumb?" Receiver glitch? Servo glitch? Lost orientation? I'll never be certain. It was a nice airplane, and I was anxious to fly it.One of the things I was not impressed with was the way the flaps needed to be hooked up to work. Both flaps ran through a single servo, but with 90-degree pivot points. To deploy the flaps, the servo needed to "push" the control rod to deploy the flap on one side, but needed to "pull" the control rod to deploy the flap on the other side. I could never get them to come down symmetrically, so decided not to use them until I had flown the airplane for a while. Sadly, I never got to that point. The other thing I didn't like was the fact that, once the airplane was put together, it was EXTREMELY difficult and time consuming to take apart to load/ transport it to the flying field. There are other scale models out there (Sport Cub S) that are far easier to take apart and transport, and are around the same price.

Good plane but adjustments needed.
Airplane not very well engineered. Have to have 1/2 ailerons on in order to fly level flight. Still trying to work that out. At level flight, flies great but can't roll to right due to aileron compensating.

You need experience in making airplanes
Very nice model I love it very much but the one thing I dislike is the instructions are not very clear sometimes

Replace the Screws Before Assembly
Structurally, this model is made by moulding styrofoam around hard plastic, (probably styrene) hard points which have pilot holes to accept the assembly screws. Unfortunately, the self tapping screws are of poor quality, and the phillips crosses in the heads tend to strip. This generally happens before the screws are fully tightened. I recommend replacing them with quality screws before attempting assembly. If you can't find exact matches, you can easily find #4 screws at any hardware store. As these are larger than the supplied metric screws, the pilot holes should be enlarged accordingly.I can't comment on how it flies, as I am waiting for the tools I need to drill out the broken screws on my model before I can finish assembly. The photo shows a broken screw. It stopped before tightening and the head stripped. the plastic hard point is less than 1/4" across. I was able to grab the head with pliers to turn it out, but the head just twisted off. I am waiting for a pin vise from China to drill holes all around the broken screw to get it out. I will then foll the hole with hot glue or epoxy and drill a new pilot hole. Then I will treat the next 3 or 4 stripped screws in a similar manner.

a great plane to fly
a big setback was to buy new screws..the ones supplied are weak the heads break off.causing repairs....the upside...a great plane to fly ...very nice detail..easy to separate wings for transport to flying field.. ..reasonable price

Buzzing beaver part 2
My second one. First survived a couple of years and many flights. A few accidents...one too many, and I bought another beaver. Warm that beaver up and it buzz's to life! Fun beaver! Who doesn't love a faithful beaver!Thing flies like a dream. Floats or wheels. So much fun. Forgiving too. Good conversation piece. Everyone loves to talk about my beaver.
