very bright, fairly light, and inexpensive
Just got this and have used it for walking around in the pitch dark and for working behind my stereo changing wires. Very practical so far. Construction is good. Operation is easy. I like it.Easy to adjust headband with over-the-top loop makes it secure and comfortable and easy to position the light. The light is a little bit bulky compared to the Petzl low-profile lamps, which have their place but are not as bright and can't cast a long-distance beam like this one does. But it's not big, and it feels light. You're not going to forget it's there, but it's not a drag to wear. The body seems solid enough, but made of plastic not aluminum. The ratcheting adjustment gear is plastic but it seems like good high-impact plastic that should last. We'll see. I don't really want to be adjusting it a lot, just in case. The light turns on with one click, one more click dims it to about 60% brightness. It's easy to quickly click on and off. It looks very water resistant, or even waterproof. There's just one bulb, the 3W Luxeon, and both brightness settings cast the same shaped focused beam surrounded by a cone of usable light. At either setting the beam goes out to at least 100ft and you can also see some of your surroundings, so you're not looking through a straw, so to speak. For example, I stood about six feet from a wall and the beam was about 18 inches wide and the cone of light was about ten feet wide, a pretty good balance. The headlamps that cast a diffuse glow are nice, but can't light up the night like this one does, especially out to 100ft.The bright setting is surprisingly bright, especially considering the 3 AAA battery pack. The dimmer setting is a good balance between not too bright and not too dim. You can really see what you're doing. It would be nice if there was one more dimmer setting but that's just nitpicking.A good headlamp and a bargain at $20 with free shipping. $30 plus tax and shipping would be reasonable.

you get exactly what you've paid for.....
I got this lamp a couple of weeks ago....I'm an industrial painter, wich for some of you who don't know the core of our job is basically working under veeery rough environments....we sand blast a lot...so for me to have a very reliable flashlight or headlamp it's not really an option...ITS A MOST! ....so, I did my homework, found this light...cheap....and it works really good...compared to my coleman 90 lumen flashlight, I think the coleman suprasess it ..but not by much, Im no expert or anything..the light works really good, and if it breaks, hell...JUST GET ANOTHER ONE!! THEY'RE HELLA CHEAP !LOL ... I am currently looking at the Dorcy 220 lumens rechargable flashlight...after a really intense research, I believe I've found the right light, and you won't have to worry about them expensive bateries..but still, this light would be perfect for somebody who doesn't have it as rough as we do, hope the review was helpful to at least one person..jeje..

doesn't last
I bought this light because it is fairly in expensive and seemed like a good deal. When I got it I was very happy with it; it was very bright and I thought I got a great deal. however, when I went on a caving trip I was less than pleased. after a few hours I discovered that it was getting dim; I had figured it needed new batteries, but when I put them in it had gotten no brighter. the light continues to get progressively, yet significantly, dimmer as I use it, which is rare for a an LED light.in conclusion I think this is a good deal for someone who does a little camping every now and then, but if you want a really good light, put out just a little extra cash and get a good light. I would recommended petzl, coast, or black diamond.p.s. it claims 145 lumens but compared to my friend's coast flashlight that claims 97 it is really dim.

Well worth the money
For the price I paid (around $20) this light is great. It's very bright and lightweight. There are only 2 things that I'm worried will break. The holder for the batteries is a little bent as if the plastic wasn't measured right or excess plastic wasn't cut off. It's not causing any problems for now. Secondly, when moving the light up and down it feels like it's going to break. So far no problems though. I've used a $15 Everready headlight that I bought at Home Depot for several years, but have had to tape it all up to keep the batteries in. The Dorcy light is much, much brighter, and seems more durable. I am a cable guy and have to climb telephone poles in the dark.

Very bright, great price.
I have had many headlights over the years. Incandescent lights burned batteries quickly, so I jumped on the l.e.d. bandwagon and dropped $50 on a .5 watt Princeton Tech when they first came out. Loved the battery life, but the light was not impressive. The 1 watt lights came out and I spent $20 on one of those and loved it even more. Great battery life and pretty decent light. I wore that one out and just purchased this 3 watt light for $25. It showed up promptly and was IMPRESSIVELY bright on full power and even very functional at 1/2 power. The three 'triple-a' power supply keeps it lightweight and also makes it easy (and light) to carry spare batteries, should I even ever need them on trips. The headband has narrow straps and it is tight when worn over a hat even when adjusted to the max diameter. But most lights have this issue as well. The On/Off/Half Power button works well, but it too, is small. I may crazy-glue a small object on the rubberized button to make it easier to find the 'sweet spot' to activate the power. The tilt feature to shine the light down is a bit stiff and makes a loud click sound as you adjust it, but that isn't really a bad thing. The battery cap and assembly is straightforward and works well. It is sealed with an O-ring to keep it watertight in the rain, but probably not during submersion.Bottom line; very bright, decent price, and if it lasts me 2-3 years of camping, home use, and salt water boating, I got my money's worth. I'd happily buy another after it died.
