Works Great - You won't be disappointed
We purchased this pond heater last year. Right around the heater the pond was always liquid. We had several days of -16 degrees, and it never failed. We had invested so much in our Koi and the winter before we purchased the pond heater, we lost all of large Koi to the sudden changes in temperature. This heater does the trick. We left it in until spring. And didn't lose any fish.

So far, so good
We have a koi pond in California and have lost our fish twice, due to cold weather. So we found this and plugged it in. Our temps are dipping into the 30s at night, so this has been turning on and off like a champ whenever the water temp dips below 70. I notice the fish are hanging around under it most of the time. It obviously doesn’t heat the whole pond, and the picture shows it melting ice in a 3 ft circle. But it helps our fish stay warm enough to survive the cold temperatures. Our local fish store had told us there was no such thing and to bring our fish into the house in buckets at night when temperatures go down! Crazy…5-12-23: The light went out a few days ago. Can't tell if it is working or not, but the water temps are fine right now. It's stuck in a bunch of lily pads- I guess they preferred the warm water too. I'll have to pull it out and check it to see if it is still working...

(Update!) Works at 8,400FT in a week of negative temperatures
Original review below:So after using it for one season, like many others, mine failed. I initially thought that I was covered under the 3 year warranty. However there are some very annoying caviots to their "warranty". I am required to box and ship it to them at my own expense. And they have up to 30 days to get it. Decide what failed, and if they want to cover it. Then ship it back out. Considering it's winter again I am absolutely not waiting that long. Nor am I paying for shipping on an item that failed under the manufacturer warranty! Horrible customer service and an absolutely terrible system. I plugged back in my old H&K de icer with a $15 farmer's thermo cube to make it turn on and off like the aquascape unit. I would NOT recommend this to anyone planing on using it for more than 1 season.Works great. Has its own thermo shut off. Keeps itself just warm enough to keep a hole open. But not heat the whole 2,500 gallon pond to 65° in the winter. I had SEVERAL H&K 1,500 Watt de icers in the past that were hooked into a farmers thermo cube to shut them off. Between the constant breakdowns and lack of a working internal thermostat this new unit takes the cake. It cost less and works better. Also cost me less in electric because it's much less wattage than the others I have tried. Can't speak for seasonal longevity yet. But with a 3 year warranty, if it does break, I'll get a replacement for free because I registered it.

Works great
I live about 6,000 ft above sea level in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. We have had a couple extended spells of extremely cold weather with highs in the single digits and lows in the negative temps. This driver did the job the entire time and kept a nice opening for gases to escape. Even though my water runs during the winter, in am very glad to have this as added insurance for the safety of my fish.

Don’t buy this junk!
Died after 2 months and now I have to go through a whole process to get a replacement! Aquascape stuff is cheap junk. I’m a professional installer and have had too many problems with the cheapness of their products.

worth the money; treat your fish.
funny story. turns out that the wife ordered a much cheap de-icer that looked like a rock at the same time i ordered this. so of course i sent this one back to amazon because she wanted the rock one. we tried it out.well, the rock deicer worked about as well as a rock. it became frozen in the ice. wasn't de-icing anything.i had to run out to our local pond store and buy this thing AGAIN. and now the agreement is that this thing is much better. there is always a hole around the de-icer and it's clear that it's keeping the ice open.BONUS: there is a light on the top that shows that it's on (red) or off (blue). more important is that having a light shows that gfci hasn't tripped and the thing is still powered.

Didn’t even last one season
Bought this pump before last winter. Great when it was working. Kept a nice hole in the ice even when snowed. Lasted a couple months then just quit working. Nothing comes on when plugged in. No heat, no light. Don’t buy on a Amazon. I have no one to return it to or even contact. The return date is no longer open. At least if bought from a box store u could exchange it. Too expensive to not last.

Pond heater
Ths heater works automatically all winter with no worries. I have had a pond for thirty years and found this heater works better than all the others I tried. I only had to buy this, this time because it was two years past it's warranty of 3 years.I also add a couple of air bubblers to help it make a larger area, especially effective in January and February months.

Beware. Lasts 2 seasons then dies. I suggest another brand.
Aquascape is generally premium priced, but with only above average product quality (lots of plastic and cheap electronics that will not last). I suggest another brand of pond heater. As others have mentioned these heaters will not make it to their 3 year warranty. I purchased one in October 2018, it survived 2 winters. Dead in September 2020 when I went to use it for the third winter. Bought another one right away (September 2020) and just went to use it again (October 2022) and - of course - it's dead. Note that each spring they were gently cleaned, dried, and stored in the house over the summer. These simply DO NOT LAST and they are not inexpensive. Look elsewhere - I won't be fooled a third time.

It works!
So this thawed the ice on top of the pond in very cold south west Ontario. I like the light that tells me it is working. The fish - well they were hibernating and now swimming around it like they are at a spa so I am debating if I have to start feeding them again or not because they are so active. That said - the device works well and the light tells you if it is heating or not. I’ve only had it a couple of weeks but so far very pleased.

Works on ice but not snow
It doesn't seem to have enough power to melt the snow that's covering it and the pond. It's placed right over the aerate with the largest flow. Waiting to see how it does with the worst frigid temps in February.
