Fail safe works....
Edit: I am kind of glad I can edit my review. I previously gave this 1 star because it failed so quickly. I blamed the thermostat. Although, after some time later, I eventually found out that my radiator fan was working intermittently. So the thermostat got stuck open, but its very likely that it wasnt a defect, just doing its job. I just didnt have enough information at the point of my original review to suspect anything other than the thermostat. --- Only lasted a week in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee before the fail safe engaged. I should note that my Jeep did not have overheating issues before replacing the thermostat (changed the water pump, figured I would change the thermostat while I was there) so there wasnt any reason for the failsafe to engage. I can say the failsafe feature works though

Good quality thermostat that won't fail in the closed position...
I purchased this as a secondary safety measure for the extreme heat here in AZ. In some cold climates your thermostat can fail and you can "possibly" drive the car a bit. This thermostat fails in the OPEN position "should it fail" thus leaving the flow of coolant moving throughout the cooling system. With the other style thermostat, if it fails, the coolant does NOT flow and thus you lose ALL cooling possibilities. It's an investment in saving an engine overheat, blowing a head gasket, warping the heads and most of all, BEING STRANDED.........it's inexpensive insurance.

Works as advertised - I'll never buy one again.
These are going to fail open if you get a little hotter than normal temps. This was put in a '05 TJ and YES - it worked as it is designed too. I must have gotten a little bit hotter and it "failed open". Once it fails open, it will never close again. If you have a thermostat fail closed (very rare ) - you will get too hot (turn off the engine and let it cool and replace). But this thermostat 'clicks in the fail' at like 220 and then you have to replace the whole thermostat. Maybe if it "failed open" at 230 it would make more sense.

Good product
Would've been nice if they put the box that the thermostat came in into a bigger box and put stuff in it to keep it from bouncing around however they put it in a bag. The box that was in the bag got banged up.

Not worth the time it takes to change it
Nine months. The description says fail-safe, and will stay open in the "fail" position so the engine doesn't overheat. That is not what is going on. I just replaced it, and I tested it in hot water just to know. It starts out closed, but begins opening at 160°. This is well below the 180° rating. It WAS working correctly. And then it wasn't. So it's a FAIL on durability, quality and value. Granted, it's only a ten dollar part, but it still requires effort (and money) to change it.

Fits correctly. Hope I don’t have to find out if it fails and stays open!

I bought this awhile ago and only tried to install it recently. I realized right away that it wouldn't fit. As I have never used it, I asked for a refund but they said no even though they say it fit my 1990 Chevy G20 5.7L van. Terrible service if you ask me.
