Control Unleashed Reactive To Relaxed

IT IS HELPING!
Our dog is the most trained terrier dog we have ever owned and the one that has the most challenging behaviors! I purchased “Reactive to Relaxed” because our dog is over the top reactive! He reacts to everything….Lizards, birds, squirrels, moths AND especially dogs! The exercises that you learn from this valuable resource seem simple and you might even question if this can possibly help. It does! We have only been doing 3 of the exercises for a few days but our dog is starting to think instead of react, he enjoys the activities and he is definitely much calmer. I am starting to understand the anxiety issues he has. I have not finished the book but look forward to learning more so we can ALL relax together!

Excellent!
Leslie presents a fabulous program and exercises to help your over-aroused dog learn to deal with life. My puppy is not aggressive, he just wants to play with everyone and everything. Teaching and using the exercises is helping my puppy learn some "self control". It is not a quick fix, nothing is, but sticking with exercises I already see improvement in just a few weeks.

Control Unleashed
This is basically a companion book to the original Control Unleashed. The author never disappoints. I have been using this for training agility dogs and non-sporting dogs alike.

The training method focuses on the obvious things that we’re all missing!
Awesome information on reactive dogs like my GSD. I loved the clear & concise info, examplTraines, & straightforward directions on training principles. Simple but effective training with love & total concern for the comfort, both mentally and physically of the dog.

Must read her first book first
I have read her first book and just loved it. Thankfully I had, as this book wouldn't be much help without it. I enjoy the quirky style she has, but mostly her keen insight into working with reactive dogs to help them. Overall, I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one, but I still found it very helpful and will be able to use her new and updated concepts as I work with my sweet reactive dog. For the life of me, I could not see any nasal "poof" to mark a breathe intake for my dog, and I tired various angles of looking over a 48 hour period. So sad, I guess my guy is just too subtle. Read her first book "Control Unleashed- Creating a Focused and Confident Dog" first, even if it is the only one of her books you read if you want some real help working with your reactive dog. It will help you and gives a very good way of working with these dogs. Big kudos to this author for her great work.

Leslie Mcdevitt is a queen 👑
Leslie Mcdevitt is a queen. Using her techniques my dog is rapidly gaining confidence in herself and in me! When she does react it's a hell of a lot less dramatic and she quickly recovers and shakes off before orientatating back towards me. I'm so proud of her.If you have a reactive dog please avoid those 'quick fix' leash popping trainers! All they're doing is shutting down your dogs reactions (which is why it looks like it works!) and not addressing how your dog feels about the situation. The key is management! Don't let your dog in those situations where they react (yes, it's difficult and not always possible - Leslie even has a solution to get through those tight spots with minimal stress) Find a distance where your dog is comfortable with the trigger and let them investigate and figure out that the trigger isn't actually that scary!

Falls well short of as instructional book
This book was recommended to me and I had high hopes. It falls well short of expectations. In each section, it felt like the book was missing something and that was a practical guide to teaching the exercises that the author talks about. The way she describes things are often impractical and also theoretical. If you're looking for a down to earth guide on helping you help your dog with reactivity, this book will not help. Many of the ideas and exercises are effectively mild extensions of each other. There's no plan or path discussed for reducing reactivity nor is there a guide to dealing with dogs that are over threshold, other than saying "avoid it."Save your money.
