Good Introduction
Everyone knows this story (except for those who have seen only altered movie versions). This particular edition has a good introduction and some helpful notes. Excellent for the general reader. Students of the novel may appreciate a more scholarly edition.

One of the great short reads in the English language.
It's presumptuous for Amazon to ask someone to "review" a classic of literature ... but I'd simply like to point out that in my opinion Stevenson is one of the great masters of light, elegant Entertainment Lit during its last great blossoming: Victorian England. Of course even the greatest classic English lit (ie Shakespeare's plays) were designed as entertainment: the more pompous, formal, ponderous moralistic stuff (like Johnson) survives only in academic circles and was probably endured rather than enjoyed even back in the day. But Stevenson is as pure an entertainer as Fred Astaire: breathtaking, charming, playful, he's chock full of of small, masterful asides but, like Stephen King's, they thrill and amuse but in no way distract as the tale races along -- they're like white water in the rapids. See for yourself: just find the first page of Jekyll and Hyde anywhere online and skim it -- you'll find it just feels like skimming, you'll be in a whole new world with a witty genius for a guide..

More than I thought
I was was familiar with Kidnapped, Treasure Island and of course The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde however I was not aware the latter was only a short novella. By reading this book I was introduced to a RLS I did not know existed. He was a writer of many short stories included herein, all of a romantic nature, very similar in style to Edgar Alan Poe though not as macabre was Poe, who interestingly enough was born after RLS. Reading this book gave me the idea that perhaps Poe was influenced to some degree be the writings of RLS. I enjoyed this book of short stories and was left wanting more.

Forget the Movie...Read the Story
I’m happy I read this short novella of Jekyll and Hyde. Of couse, I was familiar with the story, but the written story is so much more interesting and complex. The tale is almost told backwards. With very satisfying results. I’m sure there are many ways to interpret the story. But for me, I had to stop and ask if we, each, have our own Mr. Hyde side. I suspect we do. The real question is how frequently and how intently we give into it.

Nice Version of This Classic Tale
Despite the story having entered the modern vernacular, I had never actually read it. I’m glad I read it, but anyone looking for a fast-moving action story, as depicted in the movie versions, may be disappointed.

Great stories by a gifted author.
Robert Louis Stevenson was a brilliant writer. His prose holds up admirably for modern readers.
