Teach Yourself Visually
I have come to one mistake Page 142 on the Turn Heel step 4 should read Row 4: SL1,p to 1st before the gap, p2tog, p1,turn. The p2tog is missing. But, when you go back to her first teaching you see that it is there. I have made the socks and they turn out prefect. That is just a oversite. The book is very clear. It was scary for me to try socks. This book is so simple that a first time knitter could handle any pattern in this book if you go to the learning section first, which was not a waste of time, for me. Plus, it is very easy to go back and find those parts you need as you go while knitting your socks. VERY good. I KNOW I couldn't make a sock that fits me without this book, ask me how I know? Tons of trying and failing. Yahoo, now I have a pattern for me that works. SO HAPPY!

Sock knitting
I'm a moderately experienced knitter but have never attempted socks. I taught myself to knit using the Teach Yourself Visually Knitting book and know that I am successful with this type of instruction. Skimming through the book, it seems to provide the basics of the main styles of construction with detailed photos of each technique. The first chapter gives good information about choosing yarn and needles that is essential for those starting out. Tips sprinkled liberally throughout will keep me from having to "invent the wheel" as I progress. And there are enough patterns to practice from while I perfect this new-to-me skill. Then, once I am more accomplished, I will likely get more books with more difficult patterns; but this will be my main reference for how to knit socks.

Sock knitting
It's an awesome book. It has almost everything I wanted in it. One thing missing was 2-at-a-time instructions for casting on toe-up. I have family with long feet & perfer to do ours that way so that I don't have to buy more yarn. But its for sure a book to have for sock knitters.Other thing that's missing is spiral binding. That would make it easier to have the book open while working with the instructions.

best self help book
I'm a library geek and have a rule of "Don't buy it if you can borrow it, then you don't have to store it" but when I borrow the same book more than 3 time it's time to own it. The pictorials are excellent. I've mastered the toe-up, the kitchner stitch, after thought heels... My book is tattered & well loved. If you want to learn to knit socks this is great for beginners or to refresh if you haven't knit them in a long time.

Teach yourself sock knitting
40 or 50 years ago I knitted socks, thought I knew everything!!This years I started knitting socks again, found out I forgot more than I ever knew. This book is a great help; for once in my life I'm able to knit a decent heel gusset, one without holes where the gusset and instep stitches meet. I've only got started so I suspect I have much more to learn. Just goes-ta-show-ya...when you think you know it all there is much more to learn. Thanks Laura Chau.

There was no way of knowing that the book was not new.
I am still knitting socks the old fashioned way. Want to see how the younger folk are going about it. It is always good to learn something new.

Técnicas claras y paso a paso. Me encanta la idea de introducir un patrón básico en cada capítulo para resumir todo lo visto en ese capítulo.Me gustaría que las fotos tuvieran más zoom, se ve un poco pequeño comparado con el libro de "Teach Yourself Visually Knitting"

You really do need to know something about knitting to make good use of it
This is not a book for beginners. You really do need to know something about knitting to make good use of it.
