Regular electric sharpener that plugs in to wall outlet. I use mine a LOT as I'm into the adult coloring books. It works perfectly and is super easy to empty. Nice long cord as well. A+

Can this sharpener be used for colored pencils?

We use it all the time for colored pencils; both cheap Crayolas, and some pricey artist quality ones. It makes a nice point and stays centered.
