Ansen Tools Grit Sharp AS-422 Premier 8-Inch Double-Sided Diamond Sharpener Medium/Fine with a Non-Skid Rubber Base

Received mine today and initially was quite impressed with the rubber holder and its appearance. However, the 400 grit/1000 grit hone that I received had nearly the same grit on both sides, the 1000 grit (finer) side being a somewhat coarser (maybe like 320 grit sandpaper) hone than the 400 grit side. Also, the grit on both sides was significantly coarser towards the ends than in the center of the plate. I'm sending it back (no hassles from Amazon, thankfully) for a refund, though if Ansen could provide me with a non-defective hone with uniform and correct grit, I'd happily pay Amazon's price and revise this review.

Great tool but one needs a much finer grit that the 1000 "fine" grit provided

The rubber base is very flexible and holds onto the heavy steel-based sharpening surfaces very well.I like the almost-flat surface much better than the "dot" diamond surfaces on many other diamond stones.The 400 Grit and 1000 Grit surfaces sharpen my woodcarving knives much better than any of the other man-made or diamond stones.I bought this 8-inch-long diamond stone to sharpen my wood carving and other chisels, and the width is going to be much better than my other hones and stones.

It works. It works well. Did a good job of honing my kitchen knives. The instructions say to lightly wet it before use, which I did. I keep it in the kitchen, where it's used daily. I've had it for just about a week, and both surfaces are already pitted with rust spots. Rubbing them does NOT make the rust go away.The instructions brag "will provide years of constant service". If there's rust after one week's use, I can only imagine how this thing will look in years to come. Yeccch! Thankfully, Amazon let me return it for a full refund.----------Two weeks later: In replacement, I bought the  DMT 8-Inch DuoSharp Bench Stone . It's more expensive, but it includes that wonderful non-skid base, and I got a good deal from Amazon Warehouse on a "used" one. Works wonderfully, and does not rust.

I found the Ansen AS-422 sharpening stone to be as good if not better than all other diamond sharpening stone I've used.You will find at first the grit to be very coarse as it is used it become less so.So far I've sharpened draw knives, plane blades and kitchen knives with great success. With today's extreme price increase this is no longer a value worth having. DMT, on other sites, are now the better value.

Good product and holding up well. I have used it to lap natural and synthetic stones for sharpening my straight razors with no issues. Good price and I will likely buy another if this one wears out. I also used it successfully to sharpen some kitchen knives including a Kyocera ceramic knife. Did a great job.

This is the best diamond sharpener I have ever owned. I have other Ansen Tools sharpeners and they all work great. But this sharpener is superb. Excellent surface flatness. Two different grits optimize the sharpening, and a rubber base that holds the sharpener firmly in place. Two thumbs way up.
