but I enjoyed her pushing of traditional food and customs
a lot of the traditional ayurvedic wisdom is really interesting. the dietary advice feels really sound - though it could be hard to implement, without servants (she says at one point: "everyone has servants". sadly not me ...) and a lot of free kitchen time. I personally found it challenging to wade through the cine-blitz style language and critical ridiculing anecdotes about past clients and other random people, but I enjoyed her pushing of traditional food and customs, but most of all her - albeit indirect - propagation of environment-friendly practices

Hire a proper writer next time
I purchased this book more than a year back. My best friend follows Rujuta and she insists I read it. Every time I try to read there are so many things which put me off and I leave the book half way. Mentioning film stars all the time gets too irritating. While discussing food, talking about one country bombing the other or rape in marriage is utter disgusting. The person who teaches you driving need not be smelly and even if he/she is ...not sure why it needs to be mentioned. I am yet to even reach halfway through this book and I have given up one more time :(Whatever I have read till now hints at portion sizing and eating fresh. Whatever she advises about food is decent but the writing is seriously bad. She can do better by hiring a proper writer .

Alright !
The book is written by Rujuta the famous nutritionist. However, I would not recommend reading this book if you come to this place looking to get some weight loss ideas. The book is full of stories and hardly any of it might help you and your weight loss. However, the book is written in a way that you feel Rujuta is talking herself. Good for her fans who just like to listen to her. However I like her other books !

Really great life style explained for everyone.
I started this book 3 days ago and this is my first book which i finished in 3 days. When i started reading the book, i could relate myself to the real life experiences shared in the book. I started feeling good as i was going through the book and the thought of following the principles and the transformation it can bring to my life was making me happy. I loved the book and would like to Thank Rujuta for sharing this knowledge with us, knowledge that can change our lives and give us a healthy and fulfilling life. Thanks a ton!!!

Impractical
While it's nice that she's bringing back traditional foods into peoples' lives some of this advice is plain wrong for people with certain conditions. Nutrition is individualized for a reason. Don't blindly follow this, consult with your doctor.

and an annoying writing style
I don't know. Some of her suggestions only work if you have a couple of people at your beck and call to cut, measure, and cook. I am south Indian, does this mean I should only have dosai and idli because that is my traditional food? Quite impractical, and an annoying writing style.

RESULTS AFTER THREE WEEKS OF SERIOUS EFFORT
Though there is already 800+ reviews, so my single opinion really does not matter. But still I want to share my experience as I am so amazed by the prompt results.I don't have any weight machine, so I can't tell you how much I have lost. But I have measuring tape and I have measured that my waist has been reduced THREE INCHES in more or less three weeks (not 1 inch per week). I didn't see much changes in 1st week. But I started feeling good within few days. I have trusted her every impractical word without doubting and implemented it.Trust me guys, losing weight or fat is not a big deal but adopting a healthy lifestyle and discipline is a real challenge as I was extremely indiscipline. To adopt a healthy lifestyle it demands a serious and sincere effort. Once you adopt it you don't have to be bothered about weight/fat loss. It will happen naturally.I never gave up. And today I am successful. After going through this book I didn't follow any cases of her clients' which suits me best but I have made my own routine according to my choices and preferences. It's not that difficult. If I can then you also can. Just read the cases carefully and try to find the logic. That's it.I start my day with a fruit. I enjoy it with a stroll on my roof under the sun. It's very pleasant as the sun is not so harsh and I complete my daily quota of Vitamin D. In my family, I don't know why everyone is afraid of ghee, oil, cheese. so, we don't use so much of ghee or oil while cooking. But as rujuta says "EAT FAT TO LOSE FAT", so I prepare my own breakfast meal loaded with ghee which I love too. Because that's the only meal where I can have my ghee peacefully. Even if I make a simple omelette, I make it with ghee instead of oil (sometimes with little ajwain, black pepper powder, few red chilli flakes and salt. thats it. isn't it very simple? and tasty too. Try it..), and from now on I never try to cook my dishes with zero oil and even low oil (ghee). Guys just throw out that olive oil or any fancy oil you have, and bring back that traditional oil your mom or grandma used to cook regular meal.I love coconut, I knew it that it's very healthy. But everyone again is scared of that magic fruit. So now I can have my coconut guilt free and I do so. I like it more to have as whole rather than in prepared dishes. So I have my coconut (a lot) as some of my in between meals. Now I always keep a pack of cheese slices in my refrigerator which I love and rujuta recommends also. My sister tried to tease me by taunting "Cheese diet", but I totally ignored her. One thing I strictly follow is that I totally avoid refined flour or maida in daily basis. I have reserved it for my junk food mistakes..I am a bengali girl, so I can't live without my "macher jhol vat" and so I have not sacrificed my rice (white rice). I have it with my lunch and dinner guilt free. For breakfast I have wholewheat roti brushed with lots of ghee with sabzi cooked in ghee or any stuffed paratha brushed with ghee.In that three weeks I have unintentionally skipped some of my in between meals, my proper dinner time or lunchtime has been missed sometimes and I also had some indulgence of junk food (chocolates, snacks, patties etc). But still I have got excellent results. My skin is now looking fresh and glowing like never before and that too without my expensive night cream. Really, it was really expensive, and effective too. But now I don't need that. Now, let's talk about exercise.I don't have access to any fancy expensive gym. So I started doing surya namaskar every evening. As I have read in a book of BKS Iyengar (the foremost guru of Yoga) that our body remains very stiff in the morning, so you can't stretch it at its fullest, so it's better to do Yoga in the evening. So I do it in the evening. Though it's not written in this book but I have read this on Rujuta's blog that she recommends to fix a definite time in the day for exercise.I started doing only one round of surya namaskar. On the first day I was not even able to make the postures correctly. But I tried my best, and believe me I was DEAD. But next day I tried again, and next day...................Now I can perform four rounds of surya namaskar with ease. And all of these within just THREE WEEKS. I am really impressed with myself. Now I don't judge myself by a random digit displayed on a stupid weighing machine.Caution: Surya Namaskar done correctly is of immense benefits. But the same surya namaskar done incorrectly can harm you a lot.So first try to correct the postures then increase the number of rounds to be performed. And don't rush. It takes time to be perfect. These were my experiences but I also want to tell you something.Respect your body's limitations and overcome them. Just don't push your body, or give it a deadline.Just trust your taste buds, follow your heart and let your body work on its own wisdom.Love and respect your body the way it is, and your body will shower you with LOVE.

Every human must Read it...
This is the book that changed my myths of eating only a certain foods. The Author has clearly explained how we eat our foods in an odd way and get fat. I think this is a game changer and every person should read it to lead a better and healthy life.

Gimmick
A handful of gimmicks ruin this otherwise sound diet book.Firstly, the title is a misnomer. This is not a weight loss book. This deals with diet only & has absolutely no mention of workouts. So this is just one side of the coin.Secondly, it does not seem like kareena is her client. Rather, its the other way around. The author hires kareena to endorse this book. Take away the bollywood angle & you are left with an average dietician.Thirdly, the 2 hour eating gimmick. This is not only useless but harmful at the same time. One shouldnt eat unless the previous food has left the stomach. A gap of 3 hours is required between meals. No doctor, not even ayurveda will advise to eat after 2hours. But then she dismisses doctors as not knowing anything about diet. So let me tell you no nutritionist in the world will tell you to eat in 2hours. Even the Mr. Olympia nutritionists recommend 3 to 3.5hours. The only reason i can find for her to be telling this is to make her standout in the crowd,be exceptional. She seeks to be unique. That is why i feel it is the cheapest gimmick. This is no way to draw attention to your project.Fourthly, the composition of the meals is weird. Compared to world famous nutritionists who suggest a combination of two servings of carbs, a fat & protein for every meal, rujuta suggests only a cheese cube or a fruit, ie. a single group, either a fat or a protein. The reason why she ignores suggesting a wholesome meal is because a wholesome meal is practically not possible every 2 hours. Even if one could arrange it one would not be able to eat so many things every 2hours.Fifthly, her concern over dairy is also weird. While she voices her concern over adulteration of milk & suggests to limit its intake, she goes on to recommend full & free consumption of cheeses, paneer & yoghurt. That too store bought yoghurt in various flavours. Any dietician will foremost tell you to avoid store bought processed dairy products classifying them as junk. Instead they advise to purchase organic/pure milk & use it after boiling. Rujuta has done just the opposite.Sixthly, she contradicts herself yet again when she talks about 'phoren' food. On the one hand she advocates desi indian khana but then goes on to recommend pasta, noodles, muesli, oats, etc. Was her grandmother eating these stuff? Mine certainly was not.Lastly, this is not a bad book at all. It teaches all the good habits like waking up early, eating well, etc. However, the bolllywood angle is not welcome. It was used to popularise this book targeting the starstruck suburban housewives & written in filmy ishtyle. For the above average brains it can be given a miss. Even if you believe kareena follows her advice take a good look at kareena. Then take a look at karishma & shilpa shetty. Both of them are 5 to 6 years older than kareena. While both look younger, stronger & vibrant, kareena looks old & spent.

Amazing!
I liked this book for a few reasons:1) It takes us to the basics of eating right. A good knowledge of Ayurveda by the author, forms the foundation of most of the advise given.2) Rujuta speaks boldly about the trends of the diet industry and I totally agree with her.3) She keeps reiterating the importance of good balanced diet and exercise for healthy body and mind. Everyone these days only talks about “dieting” but not enough about physical activities.I would like to recommend this book to my family and my friends because there is lot of conflicting information easily accessible outside, but this book goes to our roots, our rich concepts of Ayurveda and it has convinced me how balanced and sustainable diet is solutions to most of our current problems of life style related health problems.Thank you Rujuta for writing this book.
