Feels Great, Chuck is Quirky But Can be Changed--See Update
I bought the drill with an extended battery Milwaukee 48-11-2402 M12 XC Lithium-Ion Cordless Tool Battery , I also have one in my M12 Screwdriver and it lasts a super-long time. The chuck is a bit quirky: following the instructions per Milwaukee's manual does not guarantee the chuck will hold the drill bit in place. I had an older model that I had no problem, but this newer one is occasionally problematic. Occasionally because there are times the bit stays in place and only losses about 1 click on the chuck after using it to drill about 30 holes in 1-by lumber. According to the manual, one inserts the bit and secures it about 1/16" from the bottom of the chuck; i.e., let the bit hit the bottom of the chuck and raise it about 1/16" from the chuck's base. Also, you must lock the motor, middle position on the fwd/rev control, and lock the bit by hand, as is recommended on all the drills I've seen and checked. After doing this I had some good runs where the cylindrical bit stayed securely affixed in the chuck, and at other times the bit simply feel out of the chuck as if it were never locked in. I'm not sure I'll keep the drill, but I do love the feel and light weight compared with other 12V and higher voltage drills. And the two speeds makes this a suitable drill for pretty much all DIY applications that don't involve drilling holes in concrete, which may be best handled by a higher voltage impact driver or hammer drill. This is a near-great device, except for the 'occasional' chuck quirkiness. After looking at other 12V drills and after having tried Dewalt's, only to be disappointed because of its was so inefficient at drilling into wood, I returned to this Milwaukee. But because of the chuck's lack of a consistent 'hold', I'm not sure what I'll do about keeping this device. By the way, I did try drilling and leaving the bit in the material until the device stopped; withdrawing the bit while still spinning, slowing down the bit before withdrawing it, but continued to have the occasional bit falling out of the chuck. The new chick is a bit heavier than the one it replaced, but it is a nicer chuck and locks cylindrical drill bits and hex-shaft bits in place. With the additional $20 chuck, the M12 is now a five-star drill driver. Milwaukee, change the chuck in this tool and you'll have the best 12V on the market; in fact, one that will rival all other 12V drills.Update--Chuck Issue RemediedSaved the M12 drill: I picked up a keyless 3/8" Jacobs chuck KD Tools (Danaher) Jacobs Keyless 3/8" Chuck - KDT30354 for the drill at Lowe's (Item #: 87646 Model #: 30354MP ) this morning for around $20 plus tax; and the M12 drill with this Jacobs chuck works great. Gone is the possibility of the drill bit dropping out of the chuck. I used the drill today for an all-day project and it really performed well. It is my go-to drill. I'll keep my 18V drill and 18V impact driver; but for 95% or more of the work I do, the 12V will get the job done. And with Milwaukee's extended battery, this device runs and runs and runs... Removing the old chuck and installing the new chuck took about three minutes--I finished the job in Lowe's parking lot on my way to redo a friends new place. The stock M12 drill even with the M12XC extended battery rates only four stars because of the quirky chuck; but with the new chuck I purchased, five stars. The drill weighs 3 pounds 1.7 ounces with the new Jacobs chuck and the 12VXC battery; if I remember correctly this is about two to three ounces more than the overall weight with the original chuck, but worth every ounce of additional heft.

Best Cordless Drill Ever!
I ordered the M12 Drill/Driver kit from Amazon and it arrived in exactly 5 days. I thought it the better deal because it came with two batteries and the hard shell case. I looked at the drill/driver with the fork meter kit, but apparently the drill does not fit inside the case! Just the fork meter, and it only has one battery.I love this drill! It is the most compact cordless drill I've ever held in my hands, has a good weight and balance to it, and it feels solid! with good rubber grip and cushioning in the right places. It's hard to believe it only weighs 2.5 pounds, it feels so solid. All of the controls are very ergonomic, the trigger is easy to control speed with, the reverse button is easy to control, and the chuck, clutch and gear shift are all easy to operate. Operating those controls gives a good solid feel as well, with good definite detents and clicks well when in position. You don't have to nudge the trigger to shift gears, it slips easily from first to second and back while the motor is still. And the chuck is different from any I've seen, very well made and again, just feels so solid. This drill has a brake on the motor. Meaning when you let go of the trigger it does not coast, it throws a reverse current to the motor for a brief moment to cause the roation to stop instantly, you can see the big spark in the rear vents when you let go of the trigger. It also engages a lock on the spindle, so when you twist the chuck the shaft will not turn, and you hear this ratcheting and feel it as well when you tighten up on a bit. You do not gun the motor to tighten up on a bit like I have always done with keyless chucks in the past. You just turn counterclockwise to engage that ratcheting lock on the bit, works very well and holds the bits very firmly. I have not experienced any loosening of the chuck described by others. I suspect either they have improved the chuck, or the others were using that other method of gunning the motor to tighten up the chuck, which does not work with this drill.I haven't had the drill long, but I've used it on a few projects and it performs great! I am very impressed with it, the light on it is bright and shines on what you are working on. The battery gauge works well and is fairly accuate. and the smallish battery lasts a lot longer than you would think, and charges in a very short time. Having two batteries, you will never be without juice. The trigger is easy to control, and veriable speed is well spaced out so you can control the speed of the bit with precision. It feels very powerful as well, it will do the big jobs with ease, but also has the control to do the small jobs. The case is very nice with good metal latches and a comfortable handle, and has spaces in it for other items, what I'm not exactly sure. The spot for the drill will also allow you to put the drill in the case with the larger XC battery attached, if you opt for that extra power. The charger also feels well made and performs perfectly, the batteries fit snuggly in it and the LED indicators are bright and easily understood. Red means charging and green means full! How simple can you get? The batteries are surprisingly small and light for the power they supply, but are also solid with durable latches on it. For the price of this kit, I was very impressed with the quality of all the accessories.Overall, the tool just exudes quality. I cannot remember when I've been more satisfied with a purchase! It does exactly what you would buy a compact cordless drill to do, and does it very well. A very well thought out and designed product. 5 stars all the way!

Amazing tool
I have shopped for months to get the best set out there of 12v drill. I am not disappointed with the product. I have also bought other tools from this line and being very surprised with the performance. I use it for light to medium work about once a week. I have tried to drill concrete with this tool but since it's not hammer it does not work very well, but i was still able to accomplish the work.Pros:Last longbattery indicatorbattery charges quicklydurable constructionCons:Led light location (the light is good but some competitor have 3 led around the chuck which make it better to view in dark spot)Overall and amazing tool for home owners.

Super drill!
Really got tired of reaching for a cordless drill that wasn't dead because it had not been used for a while -- lithium batteries don't do that. So I purchased this one. Great choice!Small and powerful. Couldn't find anything I normally do that this little beauty didn't do with ease. Yes I was wowed considering the very compact size. I was really happy to see the drill shipped with the new Red Lithium batteries which are supposed to be a big improvement over the old ones.I was surprised to see so many reviews talking about how hard it is to remove the battery -- not so if you are pressing on the 'tabs'.All in all I am very pleased with this purchase and of course the great service for Amazon.

"WOW" How can they make a cordless drill with a 5 year warranty for such a modest price.... I have other MILWAUKEE cordless drills and love them. They are the only cordless manufacturer that I know to offer a 5 year warranty, that tells me how confident they are about their product. " THANK YOU AMAZON FOR MAKING THIS TOOL SO AFFORDABLE " Update: I'm very impressed with this drill, it's tougher than I thought, one day while working on my roof the drill fell off and landed on an interlock patio... I thought that would be the end of that drill, but to my surprise it work as well as before, and there was only the lightest of scratches on the housing, you really had to look to see it. One more thing the price of this drill has doubled since my purchase, I paid $107.95 about, now it's $215.00, " I wonder why that is?" Regards Phil Champagne

Small, but powerful.
This drill has become my new "do all" drill. To clarify, I can use it for anything except for drilling holes 3/8" and over, and sinking 3" lag bolts and over. That is a lot of things, and anyways, you want an 18v or corded drill for those bigger jobs. The drill can do about 7 3/8" holes right through a 6" square treated post.I can average about 200 screws that are 2 1/2" and. 100 screws that are 3 1/2". I use it for building a whole house almost.Side note: the extended battery for this drill would make it even better than it already is.

I really like this drill
I use drills a lot and over the years have owned a number of different 9v - 18v cordless drills. This is my first Milwaukee drill and it has quickly become a favourite. It is compact yet still has a very solid feel to it. Torque and battery power are surprisingly good for 12v and the built-in led to light up the work area is a nice bonus. As already mentioned, removing the battery isn't as easy as it could be but I like the rest of the drill so much that battery removal is a non-issue for me. I plan on adding more Milwaukee M12 tools to my collection.Ordering through Amazon was a breeze, shipping was free and delivery was quick. Five stars for Amazon too.
