The high watts is important, strong fans need the power.
This is actually a review of 3 different products. I'm putting the reviews all together because I'm using them all for one application and I thought others may find it interesting. I have a small closet that stores all my audio equipment. The receiver and DVR put out a lot of heat so I have been looking for a way to cool them. I wanted to be able to have a fan turn on when I turned on the receiver and turn off when I turned it off. Unfortunately the receiver does not have a switched outlet so I had to find a different solution. There isn't much clearance so I decided to use a computer fan. After purchasing some other fans that did not move enough air I found this.3 of Cooling Fan-AFB1212GHE-CF00 120x 38mm - TAC Sensor, 3-pin, 240.96CFM, 5200RPM, 62dBA, 2.45A (Max 3.24A), 27.48 air pre.The thing I learned about all of these little fans is that you have to pay attention to the #'s. CFM is "cubic feet per minute" basically how much air it moves. Be aware this fan is strong it moves more air than a hair dryer. RPM is speed and dBA is how loud it is. I purchased other fans before I learned about the #'s and some of them didn't move enough air to blow a piece of paper. These fans are loud. I actually purchased 3 fans and with all 3 fans going it was too much wind and too loud so I bought this.Lamptron FC2 Fan Speed Controller 45W x 6 channel BlackThis allows me to control the speed of the fans which affect how much air they move and how loud they are. This was one of the only speed controllers I could use because most of them could not handle a fan that required as much amperage as these do. The next problem I had to solve was how to get the fans to turn on when the receiver comes on. I tried a thermostat that is designed to turn on a certain temperatures but it had a limited range so it didn't work. I also tried a thermal probe from another company but its power supply failed as soon as I connected it to the fans. Then I found thisSmart Strip SCG3 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching TechnologyYou connect the receiver to what is called the master plug and the other outlets don't receive any power until they sense the master plus is drawing power. I didn't want to wait for delivery to so I bought two different brands from home depot and lowes but the receiver draws too much power even when its off so they didn't work right. The Smart Strip has a dial on the side that you can adjust the sensitivity (this is a big benefit I'm not sure why they don't hype it in the description, I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for a review I read). It took a couple of minutes to get it just right but now it all works perfect. When I turn on the receiver the power stip senses the power is on and provides power to the fan controller which is perfectly set to turn the fans at the speed I want so they aren't too loud but keep my electronics nice and cool. I even found a local metal shop to build a nice bracket for me for $25 to hold the fans. This took several trials and errors but now it works perfectly. Hopefully this will help someone else in the future. I would definitely recommend all of these products.

HEAVY DUTY..I Like it.
To be clear..this is a review of just one product ..this one ..the Lamptron FC-2 Just received it today. Very solid. Be sure you check the wiring connections to the unit, mine were loose, no big deal. Some of the molex pins were a little crooked, I just used the ones that were the straightest. Some of the reviews I have seen said the outer LEDs were not lit, they must have fixed it as mine were fine and all lit evenly. Around 40% fans shut off but the rest of the movement provides accurate control. The knobs themselves are very solid but be aware there is a white grease under them that will probably end up on your fingers and the face of the controller.I do like that the fans can be shut off. I don't need nine fans to surf the net.I have 3 pairs of 120's, 2 single 200's and another 120 on the six channels, with plenty of watts left over on each channel. These are all Corsair fans. The fit is a little tight in my Corsair 600T. 4 screw holes are provided on the controller. I had to remove the tooless latch on the side to install 2 screws on that side but was able to re-install after putting in the screws, the back side only has one screw hole that lined up on my case. All-in-all 3 screws are plenty for security of the fan controller. The LEDs intensity varies with knob position, from off to bright. It is not too bright as it is a deep blue. The 6 cables provided are aprox. 14 inches long. So far...first day with my Lamptron FC2, I like it. I will update if needed, although I don't foresee any problems from here on. See photos above.

BEWARE OF POWER LEADS!!!
i ordered this product so that i could power 2 delta fans on my AIO cooler along with about 6 additional fans inside my case. i have to tip my hat to amazon for the package getting here 2 days ahead of projected date, so i'm pretty happy with that. the unit itself seems to be of solid construction and feels very sturdy and looks to be well made. However what i am not happy with is at the time of this posting and upon receipt of the product, the unit itself seems to differ from that of the images shown on this product page.the images for this product clearly show that the power leads are screwed into a post on the PCB of the controller. the unit i received clearly did NOT have a post that the power leads screwed into, rather the power leads were directly soldered into the PCB itself. i cannot comment on the functionality of the actual unit because i do NOT feel safe installing this controller inside my PC. the knobs on the unit have a nice feel to them and they do indeed have a click to represent an on/off state.i cannot in good faith recommend this product because as you can tell from the pictures provided this unit differs greatly from what is advertised. the soldering of the leads to the PCB itself is unsafe and shows lazy construction in this aspect that is critical in the operation of the unit. it is hazardous and plain negligent on the part of the manufacture.i have contacted amazon support in regards to returning said item to the 3rd party seller that i received this unit from and will expect a full refund of this product. if you are thinking about purchasing this unit because you need a fan controller that can push more than 30w/per ch to power fans such as power hungry deltas, i advise you to be VERY wary of this product as the unit you receive may NOT look like the one in the pictures showcased for this product. BUYER BEWARE!

Great product, does exactly what I needed it to do.
While the 3 pin connectors on the inside worry me a bit as far as long term durability, the device does exactly what I needed it to. It was easy to install and I've plugged all my case fans into it. I can now keep my fans running low when things aren't getting too hot to cut down on the noise, but I can easily turn them up load on hot days.
