It works fine..but watch for mold growth!
I bought this humidifier for my bedroom and had hopes that the bottle for the essential oils would throw off a nice, mild scent. Let me start with the fact that the reservoir is large enough to hold water that will last at least 12 hours if you run it on half speed. It really doesn't need to be on high since most bedrooms aren't huge, open rooms. I've found that it runs into early afternoon the next day if I fill it about 11-12 when I go to bed. That's perfect and just what I'd hoped for.The little bottle that holds the essential oils is a piece of garbage. It has a little wick in the bottle that sticks up into the underside of the base of the humidifier. This worked for about a week when some plastic piece broke under there and there went the ability to have lavender oil wafting throughout my room at night. Actually you're better off with a Glad plugin or something like it if you want your room to smell good. It's more trouble than it's worth and it just doesn't put off much scent. As for cleaning it....the instructions are vague. Let me just say that I have used humidifiers most of my adult life because I have a lot of allergies and I've gone through more humidifiers than I could possibly count. This model makes it sound like running some clean water thru the base and the reservoir is good enough to keep you from chucking mold spores into your room. It's NOT good enough!!! I empty both the reservoir and the base every night, rinse them out well with warm water and once a week I would mix white vinegar and water and put it everywhere that water touched. Leaving it for about 20 minutes should be sufficient...but there are a lot of little places that the solution will not hit, or sit long enough to actually clean....in the reservoir there is the hole the water goes up through to come out the "spout". This is a danger area as it was turning pink within a week. There is no way to clean this without using bleach. I pour a little bit of bleach thru the hole, and use the vinegar/water solution everywhere else and in 20 minutes the pink spores are gone and the rest of the humidifier is nice and clean.Just use caution...pink is mold. Standing water will grow mold, and tho they act like this humidifier is immune to mold, it is not, I assure you. It's going to need a bleach rinse about once a month thru all the working parts that touch water. Otherwise the vinegar/water is good enough. Make SURE you empty out the stale water, and rinse thoroughly every single day. If you breathe in mold, you are going to get sick. So keep your humidifiers clean!!All in all it's a good humidifier for the price. They either need to go without the essential oil bottle, or make it work a WHOLE lot better than it does now.I would probably buy it again, but honestly the I dream of Jeanie thing just gets old and the little mold traps are dangerous. It could use some updates in design and some much better directions to clean it out, especially for people who have babies and have never used a humidifier before.Four stars because their cleaning advice stinks, the way it's built gives great little spaces for mold to grow, and the essential oil bottle is garbage.

Warm mist is better.
There are a lot of great aspects to this humidifier. It is easily the best to look at, the night light is a pretty blue color (though a little bright- a dimmer would be nice), it really is pretty quiet, the intensity control is easy to use, and a full tank will last through the night on a medium-high. I tried the oil diffuser (which is what attracted me to this in the first place above the others) but it just gave me a headache. Maybe I am using the wrong oils (I bought Eden's Garden 100% Essential Oils). In the past I had only used warm mist humidifiers, not because of any preference but just what fit my price range and aesthetic at the time. After using this humidifier, I know I will be buying a less beautiful but more effective warm mist humidifier once this one wears out, or if I need one for another room. This one puts out a lot of mist, but because it isn't steam, the mist falls to the floor instantly and doesn't make it past a 2 ft. radius. It also soaks whatever surface you have it on if its above the medium setting, so I have it sitting on a towel at all times, which kind of takes away some of the beauty of it.If you put this on high right next to you as you sleep, you will feel its effects because it is raining mist down on you, but it will not make it to someone sleeping on the other side of the bed. My recommendation is to buy a warm mist humidifier that will dissipate the humidity throughout the air in the entire room.If you enjoy cool mist humidifiers, this is the one for you.

SunPenTown Mistically Scintillates...With One Possible Mistake!
I was impressed with the initial aesthetics of this model and was delighted when I received it in six short days. Loading it up with water is a relative breeze -- but certainly take care to hold it with both hands, and put the cap on loosely. Setting it back on the base is also pretty easy, though you do notice some spillover water. So you might want to "install" it on top of a basin -- we put it on top of a metal popcorn tin over ours. Then if any water leaks out, you've got it captured. Now to add the essential oil. That's also a pretty simple proposition -- but get an eye dropper so you don't lose any of the valuable volatile liquids. The wick is also a great idea. Once fully loaded, the scintillating mist is a blissful experience, especially with the purple or blue light on. The only Achilles heel in this operation is a small fingernail-sized piece of plastic that mysteriously detached from the oil bottle reservoir. I noticed it when lifting the base. But I couldn't figure out where it came off of! Now it seems a bit trickier to screw on the little bottle but I think it is still working. So Sunpentown should do something with that little space -- don't leave any unnecessary plastic to break off! Maybe a little rubber sleeve would be a better fit. Any other buyers have the same issue? All in all -- don't be perplexed, buy the purple SPT and have yourself a scintillating peak experience. It's like Aladdin's magic lamp of enchanted vapors!!
