Simple and convenient
No ice or salt required and is versatile for ice cream or frozen drinks. I thought the insert would be a hassle taking up freezer space, but I just store bags of peas , etc in it.

Not Good for Ice Cream!
What a concept! An electric ice cream maker for indoors, no salt, no ice, and made by Cuisinart! Must be great!I didn't buy or try it with frozen yogurt or sorbet in mind, but for ice cream it is a complete waste of money. I froze the tank, according to instructions, before each use - 24 hours! I used the Cuisinart recipe, plus two old family foolproof recipes. On all 3 occasions, the ice cream didn't even nearly freeze at the recommended 20 - 25 minutes. You can only churn it for so long, or the frozen tank is going to lose its "freeze". On the third try, I actually did extend the timing until almost 40 minutes, and that gave me the same results, because the tank can't stay frozen long enough to make a difference. Anyway, not in three uses was the ice cream even frozen enough for "soft serve" definition. By the time you slop it out, the "ice cream" is like cold thick milk - but not even nearly frozen. I really wanted this to work, but after 3 failures in a week, I'm on my way down to the gourmet store to get my money back and I will dust off the old workhorse and salt and ice - or go to Dairy Queen. The instructions do say that you may not like the texture of the ice cream, and that you might want to freeze it in your freezer for a few hours before eating it. But then what's the point of the machine? You can use your hand mixer and whip up some ice cream solution and freeze it in tupperware without spending the money on this machine.

Product description is WRONG!!!
The product description for this product is wrong. I was expecting to mix my ingredients, put them in the machine, turn it on, and have ice cream in 20 minutes. Instead, I must freeze the ice cream receptacle in the freezer for 6 to 22 hours before I can make ice cream. I am very disappointed with this product. It does make good ice cream, but is very inconvenient to use, and the 1 1/2 quart capacity makes enough ice cream only for 2 or 3 people.

Ice Cream machine comments
I purchased this item as a X-Mas gift for my husband, he LOVES to cook and do things around the kitchen (he cooks very good). When he opened up his present (among others) he immediately put it to use, yup, he made some vanilla ice cream, to start out, just to kinda-test the ice cream maker machine and well, at first it was like ahhhhh, ice cream is kinda "soft" BUT....he figured out that the part that goes inside the machine should be kept in the freezer so when its mixing it it'll have that ice cream "consistency"; so then, the week after, my husband tried another kind of ice cream, Buttered Pecan, yummmmmmm, NOW that's more like it.....very very delicious and just like ice cream bought from the store, it was really good, so im glad he's very happy and content with his new ice cream maker machine. Our children and I are satisfied with the results! So Thank You for having this item on stock.

Nice little machine
I bought one of these for myself about a year ago then decided to buy this one from Amazon.com for my Mom for Christmas. I keep the freezer bowl in the freezer all the time just in case I want to make some at the last minute. I find that it only takes about 20 mins to have the ice cream frozen and ready. Of course, you do have to follow the instructions which say to chill the mixture in the fridge for a while. If you don't, then it may take longer and not set up as hard. I usually make it ahead of dinner then when it's finished I put it into a container and put it in the freezer to serve for dessert. It does make some noise but not excessively. Still don't want to hear it while eating dinner. It's pretty easy to use and pretty easy to clean up afterwards. Love it. Ice cream is as good as the recipe you use and as good as any other home made ice cream I've ever had.

Noisy, noisy, noisy!
This machine is extremely noisy - which is not that unusual for ice cream makers, but only makes so-so ice cream, yogurt and sorbet. The consistency is consistently poor.Consider it a pricey novelty, not a small appliance you will want to use. I have my doubts about the longevity of the mixing blade, which is a very flimsy plastic piece. The rest of the unit is of more solid construction.

An ice cream-maker with no refrigeration unit?
Well, I bought this second-hand, I paid about $75 shipping. I waited patiently for four weeks (we're living in Brazil at the moment). I went down to the post office and paid another $50 in import duties with more or less fair grace. I took it home with excitement and unpacked it. On the outside it says 'Ice-cream in 20 minutes' so under pressure from the kids we made a mix and switched it on. It over-heated in 30 seconds.OK, back to the manual. Ah so you have to leave the 'bucket' in the freezer for 6 - 20 hours FIRST. Kinda puts pressure on the 20 minute claim. Why didn't I know this? I couldn't imagine designing an ice-cream maker without a refrigeration unit. It's like a toaster saying 'first warm your bread', or a BBQ saying 'first grill your food'.Update: I thought I'd come back after the initial irritation had worn off. To be fair it does make ice-cream relatively easily. After leaving the thing in the freezer over night, a 20 minute session produced the results. Now we just need to experiment on the different recipes.
