It needs diagnostic scanner to define it for cars at the first time, later the ECU will recognize it.
In the adv it mentions there is no need for scanner to define the sensors for a car, but it needs only for the first time to define it to ECUs.

Not good
Ordered 3 of these for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. One failed in less than ten miles. The other two would not program to the vehicle. 30 plus years repairing vehicles and never had three parts fail and cost me time like this.I purshased three of the same VDO part number from local parts store and all have worked fine.

Works great!
Sensor works great! The price is at least half of what the OE sensor cost. Perfect form, fit, function. Tool required to reprogram the sensor.
