An Amazing Festival Film Way Ahead Of Its Time
I love the abuse here from people who, I'm assuming, want to compare this movie to Blade Runner and Empire. Fact is in this genre there weren't many other 80s films to compare it to. This is a festival effort made for under a million by people who loved what they do. The sets, miniatures and composite effects were all made by artists who wanted to make the kind of movie everyone talked about but studios somehow never wound up committing to (see Jodorowsky's Dune). This is a cheap film. But it's made by people who wanted to see an epic sciFi adventure in a fleshed out universe with depth and scale. They were trying to make The Expanse or The Engines Of God in a time of The Powers Of Matthew Star and Star Man (TV). If you want to see what a team of committed and talented artists can do with more time than money and no limit of imagination, this film is worth is hour and a half run time. Just seeing how they overcame production challenges for many of its practical effects sequences alone is worth the ride. Bottom line, anyone who read Alan Dean Foster or Frederik Pohl and wondered why Hollywood never took notice of their works. This is a film that tried to make those books into a movie. Time well spent.

Take me to the Outerworld!
This imaginative space sci fi adventure was originally called Star Quest which was aired on the Sci Fi Channel. Now with improved special effects and tighter scenes it is renamed Outerworld. But wait: What if you're a fan of the original Star Quest untouched? No problem there, because this DVD also contains the full version of the original Star Quest digitally remastered and color corrected. So you can see and compare both films on one DVD. You will see how the explosions look better, the ships flying are now done by CG giving them more realistic movements, there are more complicated scenes that never could have been done by models and the best part is the story flows better now. So, if you're a fan of sci fi, the original Star Quest or just want to experience Outerworld for yourself, I highly recommend it. Kuriyama's Promethean ship is a force to be reconded with as the genetically engineered superbeing Pentan (Tracy Davis) fights for her life and to stop the evil Kuriyama's coorporation gaining one of the most important scientific finds ever in human history. Good acting, nice story, great use of models and special effects. Outerworld is guranteed to take you to another universe!

good but falls bit short.
A 1980's low budget film a bit almost like Battlestar Galactica 1980's inspired hair , spaceships , and space effects. Mega-corporations competing with each other over alien artifacts to claim their dominance of human human development. Three star rating me say cause the ending was like Left hanging and never to be continued , other 1908's movies like Battlestar Galactica would top this with better results. It ok good movie but not too great due to the ending & some other things.

Much better than my expectations
This movie is from the 1980s and clearly produced on a limited budget, but made with attention-to-detail. I can appreciate the effort. The sets and locations look good. The spaceship models are clever. The practical effects look good, more enjoyable than watching today’s cheaply-done CG. The acting is generally good. AND there’s a clear (simple) plot that keeps moving forward. It’s entertaining and does not feel like it’s trying to rip off a blockbuster. It’s weird that I’ve never seen (or even heard of) this movie before.

You should have time to waste
This movie references or is referenced by so many other sci-fy flicks. Elysium, a planet in the movie later becomes a Matt Damon movie. The ships look like the old Battle Star Galatica fighters. The hero's ship looks like Thunderbird 2, the Prometheus name is used an awful lot. The research station looks like Jabba the Hut's hideout. The maneuver to mitigate the nuclear torpedo is Han Solo. The idea of the synthetic human reminds me of BladeRunner. The movie is short on original but I enjoyed it.

Oldie but a goodie
This is a classic movie an android and a human man who try to take down a corrupt corporation, and in the meantime, fall in love. Ok, so its nothing new, but it might have been when it was originally created. I give it 4 stars based on how good it probably was in the 80s.

What Else Did You Expect?
Hyper_low budget film with 80's special effects and Junior College acting/production. Spend (i.e. waste) the time if you have it. It is part of that 80's schlock genre of space movies without rhyme or reason attached to it. And with all of the shortcomings is still worth wasting a Sunday afternoon on.p.s.The one nice touch in it are the payphones... yep, payphones, when Faster Than light drive exists, a phone call is still tied to a landline, and apparently requires coins to activate the call still.

I love the 80's
While I was watching I was guessing the year. My guess was 86 but the film was 87. Good vintage. You get to see the mix of the 70's scifi with what becomes more of 90's to modern sci fi special effects. You can see where the 2 points meet in this film. I think there is also a love story.
