Professional Grade BP Machine for the Home
I work at a hospital, and I must say I am very impressed with the features, ease of use and quality of this BP machine.I am overweight (270 lbs) and I have a large upper arm. I have had inconsistent BP readings in doctors offices because they crammed a small cuff on my arm. I ordered this machine specifically for the larger cuff. And I am happy to report that it is working beautifully. Here are the features and how they work:MAIN UNIT: The main unit is very well designed. It is designed to sit on your kitchen table, which is perfect, because you can rest your arm while taking the pressure. The angle of the read out panel is perfect for looking down at it, so you don;t have to move at all when you are taking the BP. The writing on the read out panel is BIG-- you can really see it. So if you have some visual limitations, this will be nice to you. And they made the start up simple-- all you have to do is push the very large START button. Thank you, Omron.CUFF: The cuff is a great design. Easy to get on, easy to know where it should go, and easy to get off. Half of the cuff is sturdy plastic, which allows you to sort of clip it on and free up your hands to secure the velcro part around. The cuff is designed to go your left arm but there are instructions in the booklet it comes with about how to put it upside down for the other arm if needed. There are large easy to read graphics and a blue line that you know to line up with the inside of your arm. And the best thing is that it fits my large arm. If you are worried about that, get this machine.OVERALL USE: The unit allows you to plug it in OR use batteries. They recommend having batteries in it anyway even if you use the plug because you will lose the stored BP readings if you move it. Here is a tip: you will need 4 AA batteries, so order them now if you dont have them so you can use them with the machine when it arrives. The batteries were easy to install. Once you plug it in, you have to set the time. Not hard to do, but you do need to do this if you want to keep track of the difference in readings over time at night vs day. Can make a difference. Once you put on cuff and push start button, the cuff automatically inflates. And it really inflates. A lot. It kinda hurts. But for me, that is normal with automatic inflatable cuffs at the doctors office. And then, here is the best part: The readings are accurate. And consistent. The information you receive is the BP (129/79) for example, and your heart rate. The information is stored for you automatically. You can scroll back on the data up to two weeks.I highly recommend this BP monitor machine.UPDATE June 18, 2012: It has been several months, and this machine is still working like a champ. The ease of use and the reliability of the BP measurement directly contributed to my ability to lower my BP with diet and exercise, and see the tangible results to encourage me on. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND PURCHASE!!

excellent blood pressure monitor
This Omron BP760 7 Series monitor is a very nice blood pressure monitor. The construction is clearly of good quality. It has a very large display making it easy to read even for those whose eyesight may not be very good. The meter can be operated with either 4 AA batteries or an included AC adapter. The cuff is large but is constructed in such a way that it easily conforms to either normal or large sized arms without making any special adjustments. It is easy to operate, and the monitor will store up to 60 blood pressure readings. It can also provide daytime and evening blood pressure averages. The monitor takes blood pressure readings very quickly and will even keep track of the date and time they are recorded for you. Like pretty much all digital blood pressure monitors it will also provide your pulse rate and tell you if your pulse is irregular.I purchased this monitor primarily due to its larger cuff size. As an Internal Medicine physician I frequently ask patients to monitor their blood pressure at home and bring readings in for me to review. One of the biggest problems with many digital blood pressure monitors sold to the general public is they have a cuff that is too small for many people who are either obese or simply have large arms. Having a proper cuff size ensures more accurate blood pressure measurement. The cuff that comes with this monitor is a proper cuff size for an adult with either normal or larger sized arms. The only negative about this monitor is the flimsy storage case that comes with it. At this price point a thicker, more sturdy case should be provided. This case is large enough to store the monitor, cuff, and AC adapter but it is way too flimsy to provide any protection against damage.Overall, I think this Omron blood pressure monitor is an excellent value for the money spent. I recommend it to any adult wanting to monitor blood pressure at home, and it will have added value and accuracy for those with larger arms.

Works great for me, not sure of the accuracy
I'm four and half months pregnant, and at my last visit the doctor found my blood pressure was on the high side of normal, which apparently is too high because my bp should be going down due to the pregnancy. So I decided to start measuring my bp at home to see if the higher reading at my doctor's isn't just due to nerves or stress from the long wait times. It's easy to put on, and it fits my arm, which is a feat in itself because I'm a big gal (230# which has stayed pretty steady so far during the pregnancy) with big arms. The molded cuff helps to keep the cuff positioned on your arm so you can velcro it yourself with little problem. After reading the instructions I realized the little white plastic on the cuff is a thumb grip to help you position the cuff. I was able to get it easily on my arm, position it with the blue strip facing my inner elbow, and was able to easily velcro it on. I was a little worried about the velcro holding up because there wasn't much overlap, but when the cuff starting inflating it held. It gives you the option of using the included AC plug or batteries, which is gives you different ways of using it without being tied down to electricity. At first I didn't realize you could set the time to get average readings, and took a long time to find how to reset the machine to erase previous test readings (you need to press the memory button (looks like a paper) and start/stop button at the same time and hold it for more than two seconds. I took two readings, and they were much less that what my doctor's machine told me. For me that's good, because it means that my pressure isn't really that high, but it does make me wonder about the accuracy. I may bring it with me to my doctor's office and see if they will let me check my bp with this machine and with theirs to check the accuracy, and will update my review if I'm able to do so.
