Spicy World Desiccated Coconut 1.5 Pound Bulk Bag - Unsweetened & Finely Shredded Powdered - Great for Baking, Smoothies and More!

As with most of the positive reviews here, I was searching for a desiccated coconut for making Anzac biscuits, so thanks to everyone else - those reviews were very useful in my decision making process. I would call this product finely shredded rather than powered. I love that it's not sweetened. The resulting Anzac biscuits turned out a little different to the ones I had in Australia, and in a positive way. They were subtly sweet, rather than cloyingly sweet - it was a great balance. And so delightfully chewy! At first I thought a 2 pound bag would be ridiculous, but at the rate I'm now making Anzac biscuits, it'll be used up quickly. They are now my favorite cookie. For Americans who don't know Anzac biscuits, I'd liken them to the samoa coconut chews of girl scout cookies, but for grownups. Similar texture and flavor, but way less sugary sweet and no chocolate drizzles (you can always add that to your Anzac recipe).

I just got it today, but I love this product. It makes the best candies.

Making macaroon with condensed milk and egg whites

This is the only powdered coconut I could find on Amazon. It's a lot of coconut powder. A really big size for using in just smoothies. But perfect for cooking. You get your moneys worth. The coconut tastes fine in my smoothies. I don't like shredded or flaked coconut in smoothies. I do wish the grind on it was a bit finer. But I will buy it again.

Two things about this product. The first is the labeling is confusing. This coconut is not powered and it's not really flaked. It's in between. Coarse ground with a texture very similar to what you find in dry grated Parmesan cheese. I personally use it to make chocolate covered coconut creams. The second which is a bigger problem, is there is no Best By date nor is there a manufacturing date to indicate the age of the product. Normal shelf life for retail packaged unopened desiccated coconut is 12 months, 6 months once opened. Obviously this can be extended a bit by keeping in an air tight container in the freezer. The problem is, there's no way to tell how old this product is after you buy it. It could be a couple of weeks old or it could be much, much, much older and well beyond it's shelf life date. Keep that in mind when buying this brand. I'm surprised that it has been given the "Choice" award by Amazon due to the facts mentioned.

Although initially I was not happy because I ordered shredded but received powdered which the coconut pieces are much smaller and not easily strained. But I found some very fine particle strainers online so I will get this order to work. Mainly, I am very happy to be able to order this product and I am sure it will be very good.

SO MAD. Processed with peanuts. We can't use. They should be posting the warning on the labels.

There is no ingredient list on the package, nor any nutritional information. I tried to look up their website, but my computer kept giving me warnings not to go there. Makes me cautious about the product..
