If you are the kind of person who likes this kind of thing, you will like this.
When I'm passing time, I sometimes grab a length of "line" (braided yachting rope), and learn new knots. Once in a while, I get them a little too tight, and there's nothing quite like a Marlin Spike to help undo them, without damaging the rope.Which gets me to this device. Not cheap, but a lovely piece of steel with a great profile, and perfect form for untying tight knots.So why only 4 stars, rather than 5? Simply, mine had a couple of minor surface blemishes, AND a not quite perfect finish to the all-important spike end. This is not intended to be "SHARP" - but absolutley MUST be totally smooth, to avoid damaging ropes when loosening tight knots. Mine was slightly rough at that all important point, and I am doing a lot of careful "smoothing" work on it.

Disappointed
I had been looking for a high quality marlin spike for some time and finally settled on this as the best I could find. It was disappointing to open it and find a sharp burr on one of the edges. Not ideal considering the application of the tool. The burr was easily dressed with a fine stone and the tool is now fine. It seems you can no longer find quality no matter how hard you try.
