3-23-14I just received the Sunbeam King size pad. It gets one star because of the inconsistency of controlling heat output. Set it low and you get higher temps. Set it high and you get moderate temps. It is simply a poor quality controller. Set it low and the temperature sometimes stays around 98 degrees and other times set it to low and it heats up to 112 deg. F. Max temps on high has been measured at 118 degrees F. Measured with a infrared temp gun.LIKES--King size is appreciated. I am using it to put heat into a strained knee. Its size allows it to wrap around the knee.--Auto shut off is a desirable feature. The Chinese controller shuts off after two hours.--Low, medium and high heat settings (green, yellow, red light) is intuitive.--Long cord allows one to use it without an extension cord.Dislikes--Temperature settings on the controller don't make much difference. Heat output appears to be independent of setting. I have it on high heat and the surface temp on the warmer side is 106 degree F. in the hottest area of the pad. I used a IR temp gun to measure it. What is odd is the Low heat setting on the controller sometimes gets hotter than when the high heat position is selected. Unplugging from the wall outlet and plugging it back in provided another 12 degrees of heat up to 118 degrees F. on the high setting.--The heated area is not the full surface but rather it is about 3/4 size of the heating pad. So you can say the pad is king size but the heat zone is not.-- Power cord being disconnected and reconnected caused the controller to heat up. Unplugging and plugging in again reset the controller and it cooled down.-- I think the weak link is the controller. I long for a old school low, medium, high setting with a mechanical timer. Operating temp of the controller is about 95 degrees when heat is being produced.UPDATE:Although the listed "CON" of a wondering temperature setting it still has great value in that it heats up quickly and does what it is supposed to do. That is, provides a heated pad to warm an area on your body.

Oh the new one is AWESOME For more choices of heat, but this one here,,,, it WORKS SO WELL and DOES cover a little more area. I use my 2 heating pads DAILY for HRS on some days. I WISH they'd make these so they could be charged and taken with us (I HOPE someone from there sees this and DOES it! That'd be GREAT !). Mine usually last between 18 to 25 months. That's a GREAT DEAL From something used so OFTEN. HIGHLY Recommend ! I think I had hard time finding it when I ordered these 2. Oh the one like this in the bedroom (used EVERY NIGHT For 5 to 8 hrs)is STILL Lasting ! It's a GREAT PRODUCT !! It DOES hold the heat for HOURS and IS QUICK to heat up ! My back is numb (car accident) and unknown to me I had been BURNING IT !! So PLEASE if you or anyone else uses this and also has NO feelings in the area they are putting it on (I know, I KNOW they SAY to NOT sit on it, it's my back, so of course I DO lean into it,,, the REASON they tell us NOT TO DO ! I now check my back DAILY. The 2nd degree burn was NOT FUN) make SURE they have someone who can check these area's A LOT. ALSO I do have a cat who STEALS it the MOMENT I get up,,, she's not a clawing one (well on this ! LOL) so that's not a factor for me.

The heating pad is probably better suited for use the back or other area where is can by used ion flat position. I need it for my neck. I ordered a new Sunbeam for the neck because mine works well in terms of heating. It has three settings and I use the hottest. My problem with this same product in the past has been the sponge. It last for only about 1/2 year. I was so careful putting the sponge back in the case so as not to tear but it is starting to tear anyway. The sponge is still usable but I expect within a month it will be in small pieces which is what happened to my last one. If this weren't a problem I would give this product a five star rating. They should sell it with an extra sponge and provide a way to buy new ones. In regards to my neck, strangely, sometimes the hot setting is hotter than at other times. I set it up wet heat on hot about 15 minutes before using and then "tie" it around my neck. It works pretty well and from what I can see it's the only wet heating pad out there.

This is by far the best heating pad I've ever owned ... I have arthritis in both of my knees and at night I like to sit in my recliner and use heat to relax the muscles around my knees , it is wide enough to cover both knees the long way and also wide enough to feel it on my calfs and my thighs, it helps a great deal to calm the pain down , the auto shutdown is a great feature to have at nighttime because your not supposed to sleep with a heating pad on , so it shuts itself off , if I wake up in pain I just turn it on again , then it will shut off after a while, it has a nice long cord so no need for extension cords ,,, I loaned my old one to a friend and it broke , she felt bad , but that's what made me buy this one ... I'm so glad my old one stopped working so I had to get a new one ,,, I would recommend this product to anyone who uses heating pads , it was not expensive, don't wait till your old one breaks , buy it for yourself now , best buy in a long time ...

Works well! Love the extra large size. The insert to allow you to do wet or dry heat is nice. The length of the cord is long so it has a nice range to reach. The auto shut off feature actually works & helps to provide me with peace of mind.I have been using this heat pad WITH SUPERVISON to help my dying cat (do not use for this method unless directed by your vet) & honestly I could cry thinking about what a difference it has made in his quality of life towards the end.There are other heating pads out their obviously but this one I would recommend for the cord length, the temp settings, the auto shut off, & the extra large size.Only real con is that the light on the control is very bright if you’re trying to sleep.
