Boom!: A Branches Book (Kung Pow Chicken #2): 9780545610636: Marko, Cyndi, Marko, Cyndi: Books Review: Gets your kid to read and laugh out loud - It's a graphic novel, and a quick read for a strong reader like my son. As a teacher, I would say that if you are struggling to get your kid to read a book, this might get him or her interested. Any reading is good reading. The book is absolutely silly, but my nine year old was laughing out loud while reading this. He would not put it down. Lots of poultry references that I actually found pretty clever. He keeps asking for the next Kung Pow Chicken books. Review: Theme connects to boys, which is hard to find - My son is in the first grade and has great reading skills. He is at that in between level where chapter books are too hard yet for him to read independently, but the leveled readers are boring him. The Branches books created by scholastic are perfect for him (Kung Pow Chicken being just one series of many). These books maintain his interest and motivate him to want to read. I believe this is a great step into getting him into smaller chapter books; it is a perfect stepping stone. Also, it is hard to find books that interest boys. I also recommend the Boris and Monkey Me series, if you have young readers.

Fantastic book series for students just getting ready to break ...
Fantastic book series for students just getting ready to break into chapter books. These stories are very engaging! I love the full color pages, and goofy puns. I often have to explain some of the chicken puns to the 2nd graders I work with, but that just makes it more fun, I think!

Engaging and Encourages Younger Readers
The Kung Pow Chicken books are highly entertaining for kids, especially boys. My son is in 2nd grade and is an average reader and this was perfect for him. It kept him engaged and wanting to read more. The only negative (if it is one) is that because it's more of a comic-style, it uses some slang and some made-up words.

Great for kids
My 7 year old is very interested in this book, the likes the pictures and is able to read some of the words but not all.

Most certainly got my money's worth and then some!
This is the first book series that my son immediately sat down with and started to read on his own. After reading one of these books at school, he begged me to get more. The fact that the groupings of words are spread out around the pictures helps it be more entertaining. My son noted that the main chicken is in 2nd grade just like he is, which helped him feel like he is reading on grade level (which he pretty much is, but it is hard to see other kids who are more advanced reading). I will be buying the 4th book and looking for other branch books.

Cute Story Needs Sturdier Binding or Gentle Handling
Second grade class loves it, but pages started falling out soon after several children got their hands on it.

A Big Hit with Second Graders
We bought copies for a class of second graders. The fact that a second grader was the author really impressed them. We read the first four chapters with them then we stopped to review. The teacher asked them how they thought the hero was going to solve the problems spurring some very imaginative ideas. They brought the books home and are going to have a class discussion three days later when everyone finishes the book. The suggested activities on the last page were a good idea. It is a toss up -- who enjoyed the experience more! Grandma and Grandpa Readers

This morning we read this fantastic action packed funny book, Kung POW Chicken🤩 Can’t even express how much my son Sharav loved the book. Right from the title, cover page ,illustrations & comic style writing everything magically pulls you. Get aside all the superheroes as here comes Gordon , a super chicken from the city of Fowladelphia. Gordon had superpowers which he used for good. He carries his special suit in his lunchbox. Whenever he gets into it , he transforms into KUNG POW CHICKEN. How Gordon & Benedict (his little brother) go on an adventurous ride to save the people of Fowladelphia is an absolute treat to read. The characterisation is so strong that we fell in love them . Hilariously funny, vivid writing! Unleash the superhero within to accompany Kung POW Chicken on his adventure...BOK BOK BOOM 💥 this is a perfect book for kids who are transitioning from picture books to chapter books.

It’s a great story for 6-7 year olds but the book fell apart upon opening it. All of the pages fell out of the binding, poor quality or a one off?

Like the book, hate the binding. It has fallen apart already! (We have had it less than a month). Disappointing!
