Pretty good...
This book is really quite helpful for ministers, but I think especially seminary students getting ready for their first call. It covers how to deal with difficult behaviors using Family Systems Theory in a no-nonsence kinda way. I was impressed with all the support he uses until you hit about chapter 6. Then the support gets to be a bit much and the information takes longer to find and understand. Otherwise this is a great book for any trying to find new ways of dealing with any difficult behavior, be it ministry, business, or family life.

Hang in there, it gets better.
The first 50 pages of this book were a hard slog. If you are reading it with a specific problem in mind, you will be tempted to compare your situation to the concepts the author is trying to introduce, which will be frustrating. This will be particularly true if you are part of a church that is already exceptionally inclusive of people with mental illness, autism, physical and psychological issues, etc., because you may feel like there is not much here for you in the early chapters.Later in the book, however, he talks about specific problems. For example, what do you do about a church that tries so hard to be nice that it doesn't confront damaging behavior when it does occur? Or how do you bring someone back into covenant when they are hurting others? There were enough short case studies and specifics in the book to make it worthwhile. I am glad I read it, and that I stuck out the general admonitions about labelling people.

Should have been written for business - not the church.
useless at best, victim blaming at worst. Skip this book and go straight to Clergy Killers or In Sheep's Clothing.
