Expensive, but offers many configuration options that cheap risers do not provide
A week ago I got sick of neck pain while looking down at my laptop display (also a complaint by my wife) and decided to do something about it. This laptop is in a temporary location for now, so I wanted something that offered a wide range of adjustments so it would accommodate any location/position that I end up using for a permanent location, and I needed something that was sturdy. As I was researching laptop risers I noticed that there are tons of cheaply made risers out there for a lot of cash, and very few offer any type of "adjustability" whatsoever. I wasn't about to pay $30 to $50 for a piece of plastic that offered no ability to adjust height or mounting position. I was getting disgusted with the lack of options I was finding.I ran across an review for audio equipment mounting options which mentioned the Crane Elite Laptop stand that went into great detail about it's many configuration options. This caught my interest as it looked exactly like what I was looking for. The price was a alarming at first, but when considering the price for something that offers so many mounting positions/options, I started warming up to this stand and decided to take a gamble.I just received the Eilite this morning and began setting it up. After figuring out that the knobs on the left side of the stand (which have red grommets next to them) are static and are not meant to be loosened, it became quite easy to play with the many possible configurations. The knobs on the right side ARE meant to be loosened, and it does not take much force to loosen/lock. With about 15 minutes of experimenting, I found the "Z" position allowed me to get the laptop display at eye level, and actually allowed me to bring the display closer to my eyes (which I need at my age - lol). I have a large and heavy laptop but the Eilite holds it rock solid. A side benefit is it got my laptop elevated to a point it now had direct line of sight with my wireless router using 802.11AC, and noticed that on large sized file copies, it actually increased my throughput a little bit.So despite the initial sticker shock for the Elite stand, I am pretty happy with the product. It offers a ton of mounting positions/configurations that you aren't going to get from the plastic (and static) risers offered by office supply stores, which are in my opinion just outrageously priced. I've already thought of lots of other equipment that this Elite stand will handle easily. One more thing about their customer service, I called them asking about a scratch resistant cushion to put on the stand when mounted in the "Z" position (there is already one if you mount in the "C" position). They called back with 2 hours and advised that I had a second cushion adhesive in the carrying case that came with the stand. I looked and it was there. Nice!

The stand itself is AMAZING..
DO NOT buy this stand from Dynamic Deals. There was a recalled batch that had technical issues that are being resold to the customer and they are not an authorized Crane dealer. The stand itself is AMAZING....I bought mine first from Dynamic deals without reading the reviews, and came to learn the reason they are being sold cheaper here then on Crane's official website. After 2 months, i started having all kinds of issues with the knobs locking up, so I contacted Crane and they explained this situation to me. Thankfully, Crane was sympathetic to my circumstances and wanted me to be happy with my stand so they sent me a brand new one that was not part of the batch that had those defects. Even though it wasn't their responsibility to do so. Trust me. The stand is fantastic.....but make sure you are buying from a dealer that is not reselling the defective ones.

This is the worst laptop stand I have ever used
This is the worst laptop stand I have ever used. I bought it for portability and configuration options which it has but it also has a few major flaws in the design which makes it extremely bothersome to use. To start with, the screw bolts on this thing are VERY stiff and hard to adjust and the ones that are on the vertical bars do nothing. The bars will still be adjustable even when they are fully tight. The biggest problem with this is how the teeth line up. In order for them to line up everything needs to be at the correct angle. The fact that this thing is so adjustable actually works against it. It's a COMPLETE PAIN IN THE A$$ to line everything up perfectly and then tighten the screws (which again are very tough). So given this thing is a pain to re-configure it is better off being set and left, which cancels out any reason to buy it. I dunno, maybe add some WD-40 and have patience to get it set right, but common, this is a stinkin laptop stand...it should take 45 seconds to set something like this up. Instead it's a good 5-10 and a need for xanax afterwards lol. Definitely not worth the $$

Awesome!
Turntable labs is not authorized by Crane to sell this stand. Crane recalled a batch of these stands and fixed the issue of the knobs seizing up. That's exactly what happened the first day I received mine. Although I was disappointed, when I called crane, after hours, one of the owners picked up on his cell phone and explained the situation and promptly got me a new stand. The design of the stand is high quality and they pay attention to every detail of the construction. I'm extremely satisfied with spending the extra money. It's very lightweight and well built. You can find a list of authorized retailers on Crane's website.

REGISTER the product and check the screws first!
great, and sturdy stand--3 stars because first one i ordered had the screws locked up. CRANE customer support was neither helpful nor very responsive; i ended up buying another one locally because i needed it for a gig--2nd one tightens and breaks down easily.CRANE won't offer support if the product isn't registered via their website--(which was not very straightforward, as there is no literature in packaging--you register via their website by providing a receipt)...

Crane Support FTW
I really like this stand, but I had problems with it at first. Two months after purchasing it the top knobs seized up and I was not able to move them. I'm giving this product five stars because Crane's support department was fantastic. They were aware of the issue and replaced the stand soon after I emailed them. I can confirm that the knobs work much smoother on the replacement stand. If you have any problems or issues email Crane support they will help you out.

I really liked the stand but too bad the locking screw got stuck and eventually when I did get them off they were stripped. I saw the reviews about the screws getting stuck and didn't think it would happen to me but unfortunately it did. So buyer beware.
