A fine reference for gigging guitar players who want to keep playing on the road.
“A Tech to the Stars Tells How to Maintain Your Axe Like a Pro”. Well I can’t blame the fellow for using his street credentials to market the book. Sort of like, hey you’ve never heard of me but I know what I’m talking about because I’ve toured with ……! There was a lot of useful information in this book including some what to carry with you and how to fix things in a pinch tips. The stories are interesting but the photos are in black and white and could have been a bit more illustrative. Well worth the $11 I spent to purchase this reference, I learned that much and more. Other reviewers have called it “informative, easy to understand advice”. I would agree with that and this is a very reasonable reference for a guitar player. I wouldn’t recommend this book as a sole reference for the guitar tech or builder.

Hands down the best set-up/repair book I've found.
Easy read with tips that are usable on-the-fly. Somebody put some thought into the layout; like when you've got your neck in one hand and a screwdriver in the other...the last thing you want to do is turn a page! This book solves that with straightforward instructions and large, useful photos...all on the same page. Only negative for me was the bass guitar chapter. Covers all the basics, I just wanted a few more "if you're at a gig and "x" happens" that the other chapters address so well. Still, it's does everything else so well I had to give it 5 out of 5."Tales from the road" make a normally boring subject matter fun again. Occasionally bordering on the unbelievable ("go save my drums" in the tornado comes to mind), but you can tell that author really is who he says he is. For Black Crowes & B-52's fans, it's worth the read even if you don't play.

Great Info for anyone with a guitar
Doug Redler and Dave Rubin are pro's. They've written an excellent and comprehensive guide to maintaining your guitar that anyone who owns a guitar should have. The cost of this book is a small price to pay for the years of knowledge these guys have included. Not only will you learn the how's and why's of all things guitar, you'll find out how to make your guitar play and sound its best. If you at all care about your guitar and how it plays, this book is a great resource... and quite frankly, a steal.

A worthy read.
Loaded with many good ideas and tips for the "non-guitar-technician" person. This "book" is helpful for the guitarist interested in better knowing their instrument physically, understanding how to keep it "fine-tuned," and then, probably being able to better recognize what they can and cannot accomplish to keep it at its best.

Good for begginers only.
Really disappointed, I assumed this book was much more comprehensive than it actually is.

A Must Have!
The Guitarist's Guide to Maintenance & Repair is a well-written, entertaining 'how-to,' that belongs on any workspace. A novice player will save bundles, learning to do their own guitar maintenance, while the seasoned guitarist will prevent costly mistakes - learning from a tech with YEARS-worth of experience. The book is written in an engaging, conversational style in both the 'how-to' selections and the amusing 'war stories' that are thrown in for good measure, so even if you're not elbows-deep in a rewiring project, it's still entertaining to browse through, pick up a few tips and chuckle at some tech misadventures.Found it so useful, bought one for a friend. I'd suggest that - you lend this one out, you may never get it back!

Worth the investment.
This is a very well written, and informative book. This guy knows his craft. I have played guitar for about 54 years, and I know a lot of this, but there is always something to learn. This is somebody I would like to hang-out with and pick his brain.

not handy guy is now handy
I'm fortunate to be one of the lucky ones who tours with a band that has a crew and guitar tech but I recently have been home for a bit and wanted to put an old neck on a bass with a warped neck. The whole idea seemed a bit daunting then I remembered I'd been given this book. Thanks to this book I was able to replace the neck, steel wool the frets, and adjust the truss rod and intonation. I'm so damn proud of myself that I'm gonna replace the pick-ups next! I'm amazed at how practical this booked proved to be.
