not sure how it worked. wouldn't work on my gas tank

I bought this for the stock fuel tank in my 1965 Pontiac Tempest. It came with new rubber seal and lock. Everything went together perfect, plenty of tension, but not too tight. Fuel gauge works properly. If you are looking for a sending unit for your 65 mid size GM product, there is really no reason to look any farther.

So this product came up when I was looking for a gas tank for a 66 impala, well it said customers bought this sending unit when they bought the tank so I figured if the tanks for a 66 then the sending unit should be right well I bought both months later, today I went to install and the fuel gauge wire isn’t the correct fitting for the connection. So now it’s to late to return so I’m gonna have to eat that cost. But this sending unit has a threaded male end for the fuel gauge wire, the sending unit that’s on my old tank is a slip fit male end connection. So just an fyi. If I had looked up the sending unit separately it would have said this doesn’t fit the 66 so it’s my fault won’t happen again.
