Crochet One-Skein Wonders®: 101 Projects from Crocheters around the World

I had checked out this book so many times from my local library, I realized I should add this book to my home library . The book offers: Chart of abbreviations., Crochet symbol key, glossary of all stitches used in projects, guide to yarn chart and, of course, Section 'About the designers'. Many hat, scarf, fingerless gloves patterns. Simple jewelry using yarn, thread and beads, headbands, belts, purses, hair scrunchies. Several patterns for baby dresses, and sweaters, hats booties, felted slippers. Even pattern for a sweater and hat for a doll, and simple toys. Potholders, coasters, yoga mat carrier, water bottle carrier, napkin rings, teapot cozy. This review was abbreviated to give overview of what you will find in this book, which is part of a series of crochet and knit books. As a long time needle crafter, I believe you will not be disappointed.

A great book, good photos, a lot of projects and most importantly for me has pattern graphs.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for myself. I’ve flipped through it many times, and I’m currently making a shawl for my mother using a beautiful shell stitch pattern that is included inside this book. There are lots of projects to choose from, and plenty of great homemade gift ideas. I love that this book is organized by yarn weight. This makes finding a pattern to match leftover yarn so easy! All the patterns come with a visual representation as well as a written pattern, making it easy to follow along. This is a good book of patterns for intermediate crocheting. My only gripe about this book is that some of the skeins that are recommended seem unusually large, which defeats the purpose of buying this book. Still, as long as I make certain to look at how much yarn is recommended, I can pick and choose patterns accordingly. This is a great book for getting rid of a large yarn stash.

I’m still a number for the most part so I’m self teaching myself since my mom passed away leaving me with a bunch of half finished projects. While I can’t match her stitches it’s been a rejuvenating process for my interest in the art. The instructions were easy to follow and the glossary was invaluable for this novice. Thanks for a quality tutorial book.

If you're like me -- a crocheter and not a knitter -- you approach the needlecrafts section of the bookstore with a feeling of impending disappointment, and just a touch of envy. After all, there are many more knitting books than there are crochet books, and the crochet stock never seems to rotate frequently enough. One of the most glaring needs in the crochet book universe is for a book of patterns that only takes one skein of yarn to complete. There has been a veritable parade of choices for knitters in this vein, but scant pickings for crocheters. Well, the waiting is over! Crochet One-Skein Wonders offers 101 great patterns for crocheters to use in using up those odd balls of yarn that tend to collect at the end of projects. Sorted by yarn weight -- a nice detail -- crocheters can choose from patterns ranging from standard fare (such as baby booties), to the lacy (several toothsomely airy scarves in varying yarn weights make their appearances) to the outright adorable (the alligator featured on the cover). I was pleasantly surprised to find that Tunisian and bead crochet were also featured in this book. The patterns are sound, and varied enough to satisfy a wide range of crochet tastes. I would definitely recommend this book to my fellow crocheters.

I own 15+ crochet books. With the exception of those that teach crochet fundamentals, I would say that this may be the one additional book you should strongly consider adding to your library. While most pattern books focus solely on strange garments that only a weird anorexic hipster or a senior person of painfully bland inclinations would wear, this book really does have something for everyone. I would make more than 75% of the patterns in this book. I have honestly never encountered such a breadth of MODERN, attractive, fun, functional and/or cute patterns. I initially bought this book for two reasons: 1) the cute crocodile on the cover--I mean look at it's cute beady eyes and 2) the notion of using just one skein. I did not expect to get so much more!! In conclusion, buy this book, because there's really nothing like it out there!

It contains 101 Projects, but you can't see what they all are until after you buy. (You can see the names of the patterns in the sample, but only pictures for the first couple, and they aren't all listed on Ravelry.) But for $2.99 I figured what the heck. Well out of the deal I got 2 patterns I like. Okay, 2.99 is an acceptable price for 2 patterns; but I would be asking for a refund if I had paid full price. The rest of the patterns aren't particularly inspired/distinctive. A few of them I doubt anyone would ever wear/use; they seem to be there just to get that number over 100. For the majority of the projects, they took one single picture. For a few they took two, but they are from the same angle. Sometimes they used the same picture twice, but cropped it the second time, which I don't see the point of; if they had space for another picture, they should have taken a second picture! I guess it's helpful to people that are easily visually distracted, but it would have been more helpful for everyone if they had shown the items from multiple angles. With toys it is vital to see them from multiple angles to figure out how to sew things together. There is only one toy in this book that has multiple angle pics, and it's an ugly one. So get it while it's 2.99 and I guess it's worth it if you can find 2 patterns you like. Or maybe this would make a nice gift for your grandma that doesn't use the internet. But if you're reading this then you have the ability to go to Ravelry...

There are several reviews that detail the structure and content of this book, so I'll keep this review to my thoughts on it. I am one of those people that can't sit through a 2-hour movie because I get bored or my mind can't keep on it all the way through. I am the same way with crochet projects. I find that big projects often don't get finished, and conversely, I get the most satisfaction from small projects. I also tend to find beautiful yarns but can only afford one skein. When this book arrived I scanned it, then browsed through it. I'd say about 90 of the projects are things that I'd actually make and gift to someone (or myself). I've made the tunisian bag and everyone loves it. I'm on to my next project now. If you have a yarn stash that is full of single skeins, this is the book for you. Projects for all yarn weights and composition and on trend projects. Winner.

Brought this for my mother, the steps for the patterns are super easy to understand and it's a great book. Would wholeheartedly recommend this

While not all the ideas are quite what I'd make, there are plenty of great patterns which are quick and easy to make even with only basic crochet skills. I do get bored counting for patterns and end up using them for a basic idea then making it up as I go along - and this book has plenty of inspiration in it

Nice book, good for learning and doing small projects. Just remember one skein can go all the way to giant size, and still is one skein. Cheers
