Systane ICaps Eye Vitamin & Mineral Supplement, AREDS Formula, 120 Coated Tablets

Purchased for my Father-in-law who has to take this for MD eye issue

My eye doctor recommended these as I have the beginning stages of macular degeneration. He did tell me that this wouldn't improve it but would hopefully stop the condition from worsening. I think I can tell that my eyes are less tired at the end of the day. You do have to take them with food (as they recommend) or they can upset your stomach.

I have taken the ICaps AREDS Formula for several years. It was recommended by a friend who had macular degeneration. I had recently been told the same regarding my eyes when examined by an optometrist. I went to see a specialist after having taken AREDS for over a year and found out that there was no sign of macular degeneration. Either the disease was stopped by the AREDS, or I had been diagnosed in error by the optometrist's "amazing diagnostic machine". When I do not have access to the ARED Formula, as recently, when I could no longer find them at the Drug Store, I began to experience vision difficulty. I am so thankful to have located this formula on Amazon. I hope this formula continues to be available.

I like the product, but you have to take 4 a day which I don't like, I probably will go back to the other eye vitamin I purchased prior to this one.

The bottles are only sixty taps....not such a bargain when compared to the larger bottles in the stores.

Using these for years, why do I still have to do reviews?

My doctor told me to get AREDS without beta carotene. I didn't read the label when ordering; unfortunately, the vitamin A in these pills is beta carotene. Anyone who smokes or used to smoke should not take beta carotene, as it seems to increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers or former smokers. In the major National Eye Institute study results published in 2013, NEI (of the National Institutes of Health) changed the formulary. This particular ICaps formula is a pre-2013 formulation. I also ordered from Amazon today NIH's recommended fish oil supplements http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CAZAU62/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There may be another with the exact formulation of Omega 3, but I gave up searching. This one is slightly high in one component, but not a problem.
