Our parents, children of the Depression, used four nails hammered into a board to guide the bread knife so that they could make the thinnest slices possible from their precious loaf of home-baked bread. I pride myself in my ability to slice bread into uniform slices, but the first cut into a new loaf is always a challenge. This bread slicer makes easy work of the task. The grain of the bamboo used to build this slicer is gorgeous, a surprising plus for such a utilitarian item. Glued joints are tight and almost invisible. We already have bags and ties, though including them in the order was a nice touch. Crumbs are easily controlled, and very little clean-up is required after use. This item is exactly what it says it is, and works well without qualification.

Pros:-Fits loaves baked in my breadmaker well.-As advertised, with the right knife I get slices of even thickness in 3 different widths.-Nice looking enough that I can bring my fresh baked bread to the table and slice it there while my family and friends mock me for owning yet another gadget. My OCD is comforted by the nice even slices despite their disdain. Plus I like my toys.-Easy clean up. Crumb catcher collects most of the mess.Cons:-The slots don't go all the way down to the surface the bread sits on, so you have to take the loaf out and finish cutting the last half inch on a separate surface. Really annoying.-Too narrow for my hand formed oven baked loaves (e.g. braided challah).

Before buying, I read the reviews and bought this, even though some said it did not cut through the loaf. I discovered it is because they did nto swing the sides all the way around. It works beautifully, is easy to clean and stores easily on top of my fridge. I had tried other slicers, plastic one, that quickly broke. I only buy bakery bread and was unable to slice it straight without a guide.

So I make some homemade bread from time to time so having this definitely helps me evenly slice my loaves. However, when you get the package there is a bit of a set up involved and there are no instructions for it and it is made of bamboo and sort of delicate with the assembly so if you're not careful you could break it like I did. However, it's nothing that a little wood glue won't fix. Clean up is easy as it comes with a tray for all the bread crumbs to fall in while you slice.

We make a lot of bread machine bread, which is great but difficult to slice. Just using a knife on a cutting board leaves a lot to be desired. This bread slicer is great, allowing you to adapt based upon how high the loaf is and how thick you want the slices to be.

Very easy to put together. It appears that the sanding of the wood was not done properly.When using it the first time, wood splinters from the guides came off onto my bread. Could not cut the bread all the way to the bottom. I’m returning it. Very disappointed in my Mothers Day gift.

It is very hard to cut a reproducible and constant width. That is especially true for thinner slices, where the width of the slots is almost as broad as the width of the spacers. On top of that, the knife may drift in one direction, and once it touches the bamboo I start producing wood shavings.Maybe the slicer works with the standard cake-like bread. Certainly, I have difficulties with a more dense, crunchy-crust European style bread.
