Overall a good pen with a nice little flashlight
I've had this pen for about a month now, and here's what I think of it.Pros:-Large size, which is good for larger hands and feels like it really gives you something to work with in a defensive situation-DNA catcher is so good at catching DNA that it's caught mine a few times-Flashlight is pretty bright, and obviously very convenient-Very sturdy construction, feels solid-Pocket clip provides good retention, it will stay put in your pocket-When it writes, it writes pretty darn well. No complaints there.Cons:-It's length would make it difficult to carry in shallow pockets-The pocket clip has two holes in it's face to allow access to the screws which attach the back of the clip to the pen. This caused an issue for me, because these holes weaken the clip in that spot, and mine bent outward a bit at some point while it was in my pocket, causing it to cease providing any retention at all. It was easy enough to bend back, but it seems like a bit of a design flaw that ought to be addressed. Perhaps small hex-head bolts could be used, which would be tightened and loosened from the side of the clip instead of through the face. On a side note, keep track of those little screws! When I took my clip off to bend it back into shape, I was amazed at how tiny the screws are. Sure enough, one of them slipped through my fingers and was lost in chaos and oblivion that is the floor of my local hardware store. They're so small that I haven't been able to find anyone who sells a replacement, so keep track of them!-When I first got my pen, I opened it up to find that much of the ink had spilled out of the pen tube and into the casing of the pen. This left me with very little ink to write with and a big mess.Other Notes:-The DNA catcher on top of the pen points upwards out of your pocket, so when you are reaching for the pen or past it for something else in your pocket, it has a tendency to scratch or jab you if you're not being careful. Personally I don't think this is a big deal, and I'm not sure how you would make both ends of this pen effective for defense without having some kind of similar issue. Having both ends of the pen mean business is worth it to me.-The flashlight turns on and off by twisting the very top of the pen, like a lot of the smaller Maglights do. This means it's not particularly quick to turn on, and it's pretty difficult to do with only one hand. Again, not a big deal to me since it's mostly a backup light, but still worth noting.-I haven't used the glass breaker on mine, so although it looks like it would do the job, I can't attest to its effectiveness personally.Overall, I have liked this pen, and I would probably recommend it to friends. I would, however, like to see the clip changed and made a little stronger, and hopefully no one else has had problems with the pen spilling it's ink. Now I have to buy refills already.

Well designed kubotan, pen, glassbreaker, flashlight all-in-one clipped inside my right, front pocket
This is a pen, flashlight, glassbreaker, and defensive (kubaton) weapon. As a weapon, this is much better than nothing, but you must keep in mind that civilized people don't go stabbing other civilized people with pens. If you do stab a civilized person, then you are not civilized and will be charged with battery. If you stab an uncivilized person that really deserves it, understand that uncivilized people like that tend to be good street fighters and may have a real weapon. Therefore, if you do use this as a weapon, study up on it and practice with it. I find that even without stabbing anyone, I like this pen. (Although I did lightly thump myself in the forehead and was really surprised how much that hurt. An ACTUAL attempt to cause pain would be 20x that!)As a pen ...This is my third tactical pen and I like that the cover snaps off and then snaps on tightly onto the back of the pen. Normally this snapon feature is frowned upon with a kubotan because it can be grabbed away from you leaving you with half of a pen, but there is still plenty of pen to hold onto with this pen..Like most pens in this price range, you get a pressurized ink cartridge much like the Fisher Space Pens that write any time and any where. I have such a pen in my car and whether it be the dead of winter or the peak of summer, I can write a deposit slip or the like while using the ceiling of my car as a backboard. The ink flows smoothly and without blobbing or having to scribble start it. The one bad thing is that my other pens have smooth contours for holding AS a pen, but this has a flange edge that is not as comfortable to hold. The pen is also a tad heavy.Update 03NOV2016: As others have reported, the pen ships with a CHEAP cartridge. Mine leaked a bit from the front a bit earlier and now has gushed out the back. The overall pen is still good, but I need a new cartridge to use it AS A PEN.As a flashlight ...I was very surprised at how bright the light was when I slowly turned the top of the pen the first time while looking into the light, but this is nowhere near as bright as my 1000 lumen tactical light which is ONLY a flashlight and only a little bigger than my pen. Therefore, you're not going to be able use the light as a disorienting/blinding weapon the way you can with a tac light. This pen is perhaps 30lumens and is useful in a dark room for navigating around kid toys and the like while heading for bed or I just used it the other night holding it in my mouth so I could see under the hood of my car to do a jump start with the jump box I had. If I wore hats, this would have handily clipped to the brim of my hat to function as a headlamp. As a glass breaker ...I have little doubt that I could break a window with this if I struck the right spot. Windows are expensive though so I won't be testing this in the foreseeable future. I did need to deflate a plastic milk carton so that it would take up less space in the trash (er, recycle bin) so I did take the opportunity to stab it forcefully with this pen. The dull shape of the pen caused the pen to just bounce back at me until I took a more serious second swing and pierced through the carton up to my hand thereby leaving a satisfying half-inch, round hole behind. The pen shows no signs of wear from this; no mar, scratch, etc.Overall, I think this is my favourite pen. The Hoffman-Richter Stinger is better contoured, but is JUST a pen / kubotan. This pen has a better glassbreaker tip, a "DNA harvester" crown (that isn't so sharp that I self-harvest while putting my thumb there while stabbing cartons with the glassbreaker end), and a short range use flashlight. It also has nice knurled patches for a non-slip grip. I didn't find that the clip got in the way when holding as a striking weapon, but that all depends on how it is held. The clip definitely sticks out more than any other pen. For the price, this is excellent. You CAN spend over $100 for pens like this, but that is silly. I just might buy a couple more of these as gifts.

Great pen, solid value, excellent customer service
Cool EDC tactical pen. The pen feels substantial and I think it's well worth the purchase price. When I received my pen there were some problems with it. The pen cartridge spring was permanently bent at problematic angle. There was a mishapen edge in the male portion of the flashlight head. The batteries in the flashlight portion showed rust and discoloration, and the washer at the bottom of the flashlight assembly was rusted and corroded. Under Control Tactical was very communicative and proactive in making sure I was happy with my purchase, so I explained the quality issues in my pen and sent photos (included in this review). They were apologetic and immediately sent me a pristine pen to replace the damaged one. I received it within 3 days of my complaint, and it was in perfect condition. I give the pen 5 stars and I also give Under Control Tactical 5 stars for their excellent customer service. This overall rating is dropped to 4 stars due to the quality issues that I experienced, which other reviewers have also experienced. If Under Control Tactical were to impliment some sort of a Quality Assurance Inspection of merchandise before shipping to customers it might alleviate the only negative experience in this transaction.

Amazing Tactical Pen!
Has everything I wanted in a tactical pen for EDC. I used to carry two tactical pens and now I just carry this one. Has the flashlight, the glass breaker, the pen itself, and a DNA catch if ever needed. I love this tactical pen! Amazing!!!!!

Cool product
Wish the battery was rechargeable. Other than that it's ok. It's a bit costly but overall satisfied with the product.
