Tap handle is getting a bad rap, it's fine!
Nice USA quality, arrived quickly. I was worried about the tap handle being too big for the smaller taps after reading a few reviews, but it was fine. There are internal 'steps' so you just need to push the tap into the collet far enough then tighten it up, holds them just fine for this size of detail work.

Works great for when I need it!
Purchased these to replace the set stolen with my service toolbox. It worked well so why change it?

Just the sizes I need dealing with electronics
Nice set, nothing pretty and they can fall apart but for as much as I'll use them they are perfect. Even got a Veto bag just for 'em.

Another Disappointing Swap Out
Bought these because they got a great review on Project Farm's Tap & Die round-up video. Unfortunately, we have another case of a manufacturer off-shoring their production shortly after that channel's video goes up (coincidental, probably). For those who don't know, the Irwin Hanson taps were made in the USA - the tool parts (wrench, handle) were made in China (or abroad). This allowed a country that has really honed its craft in metallurgy over the decades to make the wear parts, so you got a good product for a great value. At some point in the last 18 months it seems Irwin has outsourced the entire kit to China and couldn't even be bothered to reprint the packaging, as a simple "Made in China" sticker is placed over the "Made in the USA" that came stock. No new model number was issued. Now, I'm sure the owners of Irwin will claim that it's the same product as you expect, just done to enhance value (... for their shareholders), but one thing I've learned about China-made tools is that they haven't quite nailed getting consistent metal tool parts, nor do they tend to care a lot about the QA/QC part of the equation (and Irwin probably doesn't want to pay them enough to care). With all that said, the taps will work for my purpose and are much "cleaner" than Harbor Freight's imports (not that it is a very high bar, since Harbor Freight basically has the customer do their QA/QC). If you can get them at a 50% off sale like I did, then they're probably worth it. But I wouldn't be paying full price for any of Irwin's kits at this point. Spend a little more and get a set made in USA, Japan, or Germany.

Included handle does not fit included taps
The handle they include for the taps is only the correct size for the 5mm tap. The 4mm and 3mm ones are too small of a chuck and the 6mm and 7mm are too large of one (I even tried removing the collar completely to see if there was any chance of it fitting and there was not). It could have been my set but based on the reviews I just saw on the Irwin website it is not.

Very pleased with the quality of this little tap and die ...
Very pleased with the quality of this little tap and die set for this price. Much, much nicer than the el cheapo tap and die sets out there.

M5 die is a mis labeled M3
I bought this set because it was small and offered all the sizes needed for a bike. The first set came with an M5 die that was clearly M3. A replacement set was delivered and it too had the same mis labeled M5 die. Both were returned and a refund was received. Pity as the set was otherwise nice. A little bit of quality control is needed. If the manufacturer could guarantee a complete set I’d gladly buy it.
