Q: Why would one want a presumably permitted item shaped like a presumably prohibited item? I'd want just the opposite, a flask shaped like a BT speaker.

The speaker runs on a rechargeable battery. You will need to charge the battery for 4-6 hours periodically depending on how much you use the speaker and how high the volume is turned up. Best Regards, iHome Support 1-800-288-2792

Q: Does it connect thru echo dot speaker?
