Battery seems fine, but APC dropped the ball.
Over the past fifteen years I've purchased about two dozen replacement batteries for myself and for my church. Most batteries have been for emergency exit lights, but half a dozen or so were for UPS units from three different manufacturers. The worn out battery from this APC unit was a generic brand 7.2 Amp Hour UB 1280 which I had installed years ago. I installed the new battery in the APC Back-UPS ES 500 unit and turned it on. The unit beeped constantly with the green LED blinking in unison. I could not locate the original manual, nor find one online that described these particular symptoms. I called APC to fnid out what that beeping and blinking meant. The APC customer service person asked a few questions and then told me they do not support non APC batteries. The rep also told me they would recycle the old APC unit for a 25% discount on a new one. Finally they told me to plug the unit into a wall outlet and let it charge for 24 hours and then try it again. The customer service rep did not tell me what the constant beeping/blinking meant. From having so many UPS units to deal with at home and at church, I know the pattern of indicator lights and beeps are signaling something. I decided to take the battery out of the unit and test the voltage; 13.6 volts on my VOM, so the battery was OK. I did what the service rep suggested anyhow and the next day tried to turn the unit on again; same result. I happened to have an identical unit powering my DirecTV recorder and 60" LED TV, so I swapped that original battery into the church's Back-UPS, and got the same result. I put the new battery back in the church's back up and tried to turn it on once again, but this time the green LED indicator light came on, beeped and then shut off for good. The Back-UPS ES 500 was bad all the time. I believe APC could have told me that by the way the unit behaved, but they didn't.So to net it all out, APC wants you to buy their batteries at two or three times the cost or you don't get any service. I've purchased many generic brand sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries for a wide variety of emergency lights and UPS units and have never had a problem with them. I have also had good support from APC in the past. Up to now, I have never had a problem with APC, Belkin, or Tripp-Lite battery back up units, or with using generic SLA's in them. I am frustrated at having lost confidence in APC because of this experience. I am also convinced the generic UB 1280 I bought from Univ Power Group through Amazon is perfectly good an in fact may be better thean the original (8 Ah versus 7.8 Ah if I recall). I'll hang on to this battery since I'm sure I'll need it soon.Hope this helps,Dave

Perfect Replacement
We recently had a couple of minor tornadoes (if there is such a thing) rip through North Atlanta. I have 3 different APC UPS units of varying sizes for various purposes in the house. One is new, another is 6 years old but has had a recent battery replacement, and then my Back-UPS ES 500 is about 5 years old and has the original battery. The ES 500 kept my home office equipment and Uverse router up for about 15 minutes and then lost power. When power was finally restored to our house 24-hours later, the other two UPS's didn't miss a beat and went right back to protecting equipment during the many 30-60 second outages in the following days after the storm. The ES 500, though, would instead beep and blink, and it would lose power instantly.I bought this replacement battery and now my ES 500 does what it's supposed to do again. Most outages are brief, and all a UPS has to do is keep equipment from losing power for a minute or two. APC UPS's are the best. Their original batteries have all lasted me 5 years, and the replacements are just as good, and much cheaper than buying a new one. Just unscrew the screw that holds the battery door closed, unhook the old battery, hook up the new battery in the same way, and then seal the compartment again. Simple. You don't even need to unplug the UPS. Just power it off with the power button first. In short, this battery works great, and I highly recommend it

Not the correct battery for my Back-ups ES 500
This turned out not to be the correct battery for my UPS. My UPS shows it's a Back-Ups ES 500, but this battery was too large by at least an inch or more. It turns out there's more than one version of the APC Back-Ups ES500. Mine had the model number of BE500 with no other letters in the model number, and took a UB1250 battery, which the seller substituted for the UB1280 without problem. So I ended up with the correct battery for my system, it just took a little longer to get it than originally anticipated. I'm giving this UB1280 battery a top rating, because the substitution was done by the seller, so there isn't a "sale" for it to rate. The seller just asked for some photos to verify my system said it was an ES 500, and the dimensions of where the battery goes, and then sent a different battery to us for our system. Be sure to measure the space of your UPS and check it against the dimensions given for this battery before ordering it for your unit, and if the dimensions are too large, take a look at the dimensions for the UB1250 and see if they fit your unit. The UB1250 from the seller is working perfectly in our unit, now.

Great value and service
I am very satisfied so far with this product. It plugged rite in and has been working fine.I went to the APC battery replacement site and was amazed that they wanted to charge $45 for a replacement (RBC #2)! When I took the APC sticker off the old/spent battery, I noticed that it had been covering the original maker label. It was made in China by a company called CSB Battery(Guang Zhou).,LTD.The new UB 1280 is also made in China and I would not be surprised if most of these batteries are made in the same factory with different labels stuck on them depending on what customer they are making the production run for. The new UB 1280 battery also has a 8.0 amp-hour capacity compared to the 7.2 amp-hour original battery. So in other words, you have a little more running time with the replacement battery. The APC replacement battery (RBC #2) is guaranteed for 1-year while this UB 1280 battery has a 2-year guaranty, so it's a win/win.Lastly, I was very impressed by the rapid service of the Battery Supersite. I ordered on a Monday and the USPS had the battery in my mailbox on Thursday of the same week.

Check specs, be happy
It's a battery. Buy by specs of what you need. Didn't work for me because I bought one with the wrong specs. A battery is pretty hard to make a bad one of, so check the specs, check the price, then make sure you order what you need. This battery was functional, I just used it for the wrong application.

Solid Battery
Needed to replace the battery in my UPS after the battery completely died. Ordered this battery just 2 few weeks before Christmas and it arrived quickly during the holiday rush. The battery has worked perfectly fine since I replaced it in the UPS. What more could you ask for.

Works great!
Arrived ahead of schedule, despite no tracking on the shipment. Was a perfect fit, and is performing as expected. I'd buy another one if my UPS lasts long enough. ;)
