Expensive, but worth the extra money
Well built makes for ease of assembly. Sturdy, attractive and purposeful. I used it as a night stand and it has worked out great. I purchased the size large, but I think the medium would have been fine for the miniature poodle dog. Definitely worth the extra money over the other brands. The door just folds to the back if you’re not using for containment.

This thing is massive
I'd been researching wooden dog kennels for almost six months before I finally decided to purchase this one. Reasons being this was solid wood and the hope/expectation the hefty price tag would equal quality. This thing is massive. Yeah yeah, I know the dimensions are listed on Amazon, it's just difficult to gauge just how massively big this thing is. Even while assembling it I still wasn't sure how it'd compare to my dogs' wire cage. Then I finished it and realized I could fit in there. The kennel is for two dogs, who until now slept in a wire kennel in the garage. This was meant by me to be a half-hearted effort to make them full members of the family and to also free up some room in the garage. The dogs are 30 and 40lbs, measuring about 20 and 27 inches from head to base of tail. They are dwarfed by this voluminous structure. The quality is very good for the price and intended use. The wood is heavy and dense and there's a strong varnish scent. Assembly was relatively easy, taking under a hour. The lay out of bolts was excellent, with everything slotted into its own paper backing. Instructions were very good as well. If you've ever cursed and screamed at poor instructions while building cheap particle-board furniture - this will feel like a dream.A couple of things to note:There is no floor. In the pictures it looks like the plastic base may slot into the kennel. No, it just lays on the ground. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but it hasn't been a problem.Researching so many wooden dog crates, I found a consistent pattern of people putting puppies into these cages and then complaining that their puppies chewed up the cages. WOODEN KENNELS ARE NOT FOR PUPPIES. It's not a defect of the crate, it's a defect of the dog. They will chew it up. My dogs are not puppies and have, as of yet not chewed it up.This thing is massive. We have about 2k square feet downstairs and we are still having difficulty finding a spot where it won't get in the way or look odd. Just to warn you, get a tape measure and try and visualize just how big this thing is. In retrospect I should have probably gotten two smaller ones, but that's my mistake. Even though it is mind boggling huge, I think it will work well for years to come.

This is my 2nd wood crate and Im pleased with 95% of this one
This is my 2nd wood crate and Im pleased with 95% of this one. Its very sturdy and well made. Mine arrived on time with no damage...putting together was easy. Minor complaint because Im picky, the top piece color doesn't perfectly match sides, its much darker with no wood grain(perfectly smooth that makes it look a bit fake) which makes the difference in color more noticeable. That being said...when I look at photo on box, the darker color is what it is supposed to look like so its what I ordered, I just hadn't noticed. Regardless...thats minor and unless I focus on it I'll get used to it. Bigger complaint, there is no bottom wood piece, the plastic tray sits on the floor. Not what I would expect with the cost. Its a nice looking crate though...overall very nice and you don't notice that it has no actual bottom with the dog bed in it. For those with pictures/complaints of dogs that chewed the wood or busted through...as mentioned, this crate is pretty sturdy, more so than my last(Casual Home brand). Wooden crates are NOT for puppies, young dogs who chew, dogs who have anxiety and don't like to be crated. Wood crates are for dogs who are old enough to love their crate and perfectly happy when in it. My dog, 75lb Llewellin setter, was in a plastic crate until he was about 3 and he graduated to the nicer crate. He was past the chewing phase and teenager phase and rarely had accidents. So...if the dog destroyed the crate...that was the purchasers fault. My other crate had some wear and tear, but it was fine...I just decided I wanted one a bit bigger to give my dog more room, now 7 yrs old. I expect this will be the last one I need to purchase.

Great product but not for chewers
It’s a beautiful piece of furniture and big enough for our 50 lb dog. She’s always been in a metal crate when we weren’t home and we decided to have something nicer looking since it’s in our tv room. Unfortunately, she’s an aggressive chewer and the first time we left her in it she decided to take out 3 dowels from from door and escape when we weren’t home. My husband replaced the dowels and lined the crate with an open metal mesh and it solved the problem. She’s more accustomed to it now and doesn’t try to get out ( we have a camera focused on crate).

I expect more for $300
Initial quality and assembly were easy, it looked very nice for a week. After having had it a few weeks with a 12 wk old golden retriever puppy some of its weaknesses have been revealed. The wooden slats are not what I would call a very hard wood. After the first session left alone the pup was able to chew half of the front slats and about five on one side. She didn't chew through, but the slats were visibly thinned and scarred, exposing a bright yellowish white wood like pine or poplar. Compared to the dark finish they damage stood out. I was able to sand the slats down to remove splinters and rough edges and used a dark furniture crayon to cover the damage, it hid pretty well. I then treated the slats with a sour-apple spray in an attempt to prevent chewing. I thought I was done, then swung the door closed. It was then that the top of the door frame separated from the side. The wooden dowel used to join the two had splintered. I drilled it out of each side, found a corresponding dowel and wood glued and clamped the door back together. All in all the crate looks nice (especially after all the cosmetic repairs), but I don't feel that the door should have broken or that the slats should be made of a soft wood. I expect more for $300. If you get one and there's any chance of chewing then you should proactively treat the slats to deter that. This definitely would not hold up to a very strong dog or destructive chewer.

It is what it is
Works as expected looks like the picture. Wish I had the option to place the hinges on the door either way. The plastic tray on the bottom is a little cheap but as we have a dog bed in there that's not to big of an issue.

Good product
Amazing, absolutely beautiful. Took less than twenty minutes to assemble. Looks great in the corner of my living room. D. O. G. Does not use it, however if I choose I feel like it is a good idea for crateting my puppy. As well I feel comfortable with this sort of home training. Looks and feels great.

Nice!
So happy with this product, easy to put together, good quality and looks fantastic. Only complaint that the measurements weren't listed in ad so ended being bigger than I expected.
