ESV Preaching Bible (Goatskin, Black)

Beautiful Bible that is simple and elegantly designed. It has only the biblical text and keeps focus on what is said. There has been clear thought about the layout and details to make this easy to read and not get distracted by supporting material.

I use this for my preaching Bible. It’s got great large text and the binding keeps it open even when I am preaching out of Genesis or Revelation.

The last time I really bonded with a bible was an NASB Ryrie Study Bible way back before the 95 update. That is, until now. The ESV Preachers Bible is without a doubt the most gorgeous Bible I have ever had, and no I am not a preacher. From the goatskin cover to the uncluttered single column layout, all I can say is that this Bible is AWESOME!! A beautiful cover and a layout that makes the text the main thing. Am glad I bought this!!

I love this bible. Awesome for preaching and reading. I have a seperate bible for notes and writing in so this is going to stay undefiled and in the box till i take it out to preach. The feel is amazing and the print is awesome. The dark ink and super white pages make the words pop off the page like its supposed to. I have nothing but love for this blessing and its worth any price.

I’ve got a collection of Bibles and this is by far my favorite. The goatskin leather is nice to the touch and only improves as its broken in. The print size is perfect, allowing for easy visibility while preaching (or reading in general). I love the single-column text and margins allow for quick notes. I don’t highlight in this Bible because I want it to be as clean as possible and free of distraction. I will, however, occasionally jot down notes or underline with a pencil which does not bleed through or imprint the next page. I don’t know if I would purchase this Bible for myself at full price - I managed to get it at discount, but it would be a perfect gift for someone else.

I started looking at Bibles that I might be able to use for many years and pass down to my children. When I started looking over a year ago there were none that checked off all the boxes that were important to me. I wanted to have the following features: 1. Premium binding. 2. Single column text. 3. Large font. 4. Minimal footnotes. 5. Chapter and verse numbers. 6. Aesthetically pleasing page layout. 7. Line matching. The closest that I found to this was the ESV Heirloom Bible but I never pulled the trigger because the font was smaller than I wanted to read (9-Point) and the pages were thinner than what I had hoped (28 GSM). I was also quite moved by Schuyler’s Quentel line but it is double column and it has, if I recall correctly, over 80,000 cross references. When I saw this one, I deliberated for a bit and decided to buy it. I am not disappointed, I am thrilled with it. I am struggling to imagine poetry or prose being laid out better than they are in this Bible. I do not notice the text from other pages when. Am reading and I am not distracted by notes or other additions to the text. It is about as close to a reading bible as one could hope to come while still retaining the verse numbers in the text block and I wanted verse numbers so that I could use this Bible in public settings where people would reference verse numbers. I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with this Bible... it was worth the wait. A couple of recommendations: I do find the ribbons to be disappointing, they are thin and there are too few of them... would be better without them. Also, it would be nicer to have the headings in the margin so that they don’t interrupt the text.

ESV Preaching Bible is incredible. This is becoming my Bible for long time. Compared to Cambridge Topaz, goatskin feels great and even paper is very good quality. I was surprised to feel that the weight of it is not that bad. I have changed bibles many times just because I couldn’t find right one that I like until I come to this. Life changed.

The flexible cover makes it easy to hold and keep the text you are using in front of you without the pages turning. Easy to read. The margins are wide enough for notes.

TL;DR: Highly recommend this bible for people looking for a comfortable reader, that also has space for making notes in the margin, and still has useful cross-references. I've just received my ESV Preaching Bible via DHL (I'm in South Africa and got it delivered from the UK). The quality of the bible is top class. The goatskin cover has a wonderfully tactile feel to it (sorry goats). It smells like real leather. The quality of the paper is as advertised. I wasn't certain I would like the size of the bible but it's great for a long term reader which is what I intend for it to be, as opposed to preaching. I wanted a bible that didn't feel cluttered by double column, or the 'noise' that I sometimes feel the study bibles have with copious commentary everywhere. I wanted a bible I can pick up and read comfortably like a book. This preaching bible delivers all of that. Well done to Crossway! One thing I tried to find was a bible with Jesus' words in red text. I couldn't find that in single column format anywhere. However after reading up as to why that is, I'm pursuaded by the argument that it creates a 'canon within a canon' and that the decision to make words red or not is largely editorial and not a historic fact as such. So I was fine with giving up that requirement. Just mentioning that in case there are others who feel similarly. I note some of the complaints in the reviews of pages stuck together as such. I've flipped through the entire bible slowly and there are no such pages. This one I received appears to be pristine. A few pages had the corners still stuck together but I expect that's just an artifact of cutting the rounded corners and they are easily separated. No harm no foul.

I’m a huge fan of Crossway, their ESV translation is absolutely spectacular! This is a gorgeous, single column Bible, with 10 point font that is extremely easy to read.

The goatskin leather is beautiful, the paper is nice and thin with little see through. But a few complains for a bible at this price point. Firstly, the pages are not properly glued to the spine when I look at it from the bottom of the book. Secondly, there's smudging of "1" in 1 Samuel. The quality assurance department gotta step up a bit. Otherwise, it's a pretty ideal bible

This is a great bible. Single column layout coupled with a larger (10pt) font makes it really easy (and a pleasure) to read. The name "preaching bible" is misleading, imho. This should have been called "large print, wide margin bible". The paper is also very, very nice. I removed a star from my rating because the publisher (Crossway) used an extremely thin goat skin leather for the binding (likely trying to save some money). And given that this is a larger and heavier bible at (10" x 6.75" x 1.75"), it flexes too much when held in one hand. I personally can live with this, but I wish Crossway used a thicker goatskin for the binding.

Brilliant Bible, well made and beautifully written in ESV translation. Really great for reading at the front of church as the stirring is larger than usual and the verse by verse really aids concentration while writing sermons.
