Window Master Switch for 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee (56009449AC, 68171681AA)

1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ - Replacement door lock/window switch assembly is excellent in fit, form and function. Easy to install with no problems. Great value for the money! My only advice: get some door panel clips as some of the plastic OEM ones will always break.

The good ol Cherokee. I find myself on Amazon & rock auto looking for something to fix something on it more than I really care to. The last year of the XJ & Chrysler still couldn't figure out how to make the master switch window lock not fail. But, alas, they never did. Thankfully, switchdr has these for $19. I know I could have fixed the issue with a paper clip, but this poor old SUV is already held together with hopes, dreams, a little electrical tape & some self taping screws. Iykyk. The switch looks similar to factory, just not 24 yrs old. All of the windows roll down independently from their own door now. My wife is pretty stoked about that. She no longer has to beg me for a gasp of fresh air. But the lock button is still there if I were to choose to pass gas & crank the heat. It's a win/win for $19. Easy to switch out.

Ordered this switch module to replace one that was having issues for a while. Windows could only be controlled using the driver's side panel. This was a common issue woth the lock mechanism on the driver's side switch. Everything now works after replacing. I also did the fix to bypass the lock and fixed slme broke and frayed wiring in the door, which is another common issue on Jeep Cherokee XJ's. Hopefully this lasts. But I do see these have a lifetime warranty. Hopefully I never have to test that warranty process.

Still working great in the daily driver 1 year later. Only thing is the indicator lights are slightly off from the factory color. Slightly more blue than the light green in the XJs

When it comes to repairs, Jeep Cherokee XJ owners fall into three categories. 1. The part breaks and they take it in to get it fixed. 2. The part breaks and they they to fix it themselves (which usually works). 3. The part breaks and they simply don't fix it. One thing about us Cherokee owners is that we tend to either be frugal, or we refuse to replace the Jeep because we love the darn thing too much! Well, my 2001 Cherokee fell victim to a passenger window motor that kept getting slower and slower and eventually would not go up (on a freezing day, of course). I also noticed that my passenger window switch was no longer lit up, telling me that electricity in some way, shape or form was not getting over there. I scoured the XJ forums and discovered that the culprit was either the window motor, or the lock out switch on the driver's side was faulty cutting off the juice that makes it over to the passenger window. Naturally I tried the cheapest fix, which was the passenger window regulator/motor which only cost me $25, brand new on eBay. I replaced it and that didn't fix the problem. I did a bit more investigating online and found out that with a paperclip, the removal of a kick panel, and some jerry rigging, I could bypass the lockout switch which restored power to my passenger side (note: I will not give you instructions on how to do this for liability reasons but you can find it online and on youtube if you look around. UNHOOK the battery before you do the paperclip thing or you will electrocute yourself). This confirmed that it was indeed the lock out switch on the drivers side. The only other solution to my problem was to replace the master power windown/lock switch cluster. I called the dealership and refused to pay over $100 for this part so I checked Amazon and sure enough, I scored this brand new replacement unit from the Switch Doctor. While I will agree with other reviewers that yeah, the build quality may not be as robust as the Jeep original, it works, and that is all that I care about. And I got it for half of the price of a Jeep original part. The lights on the switches are brighter than the stock unit and the switches all function exactly like the originals and I was excited to see my windows working fully again! I do recommend you watch a few youtube videos (Dorman makes the best one) on how to remove the panel if you have never done it before. Also, get a body panel trim removal tool from your local auto parts store and you will save your hands as well as some panel clips in the process. Good luck! I apologize for telling my complete story about the diagnosis and fix on the Cherokee but I'm sure there are a ton of other XJ owners out there that are dealing with or have dealt with the same situation that I did and this new switch from the switch doctor will not let you down. Again, stop complaining and buy that darn part!!!

Worked right out of the box. Back window switch worked intermittently. This fixed the issue

My Cherokee Sport ‘99 door switch panel started to have some issues (window lock button stopped working/stuck on lock a year or so ago), then passenger window was opening and closing very slow, then the driver side window would require several tries to get it to open and close the window. Eventually the driver side window wouldn’t work at all, no window motor noise either. It was either wiring, the window regulator/motor (but I replaced that a couple of years back) or the switch. After reading some message boards I decided it sounded more like a switch problem and I found this switch on Amazon for cheaper than my time would cost to test wiring, open the switch housing and make soldering repairs etc. It arrived in 2 days, took me only 20 mins to take the door panel off, install and test the new switch, then reinstall the door panel. Everything works perfectly and the bright orange switch lights are a nice touch. Much cheaper than a garage parts and labour and quicker process too. Highly recommended!
