Steam Train, Dream Train

Wonderful bedtime book with soothing cadence/rhymes, cute artwork, & it’s a perfect read for any young kiddos who love trains. Our 2.5yo wants us to read it to him almost every night - recommend!

I bought this book for my toddler (almost 3yo) who loves all kinds of vehicles. We already had the 'Goodnight, goodnight, construction site' book which he loved, so I thought I would try this author again. He loves trains and this story and it has become the new favorite. What I like about it: it's colorful, imaginative, has a lot of things that spark questions and conversation, and the fact that he likes it! When I ask him his favorite thing about the book, he said "the train car with the ice cream in it" (haha)! If I had to say something I dislike, the only thing I can come up with is that it sparks a lot of questions (which is great during the day, but when we read it before bed, there is not always time to respond to his questions). Not entirely a bad thing! If you like this book, I would definitely suggest the construction book. We currently have construction going on at our house, so we have seen a lot of those vehicles and my son has learned a lot about it! We plan to keep these books and read them to the twins (boy/girl) and I am sure they will both enjoy them as well (they also love watching the construction vehicles that are around too).

My kid and I both love this book. It's well written, has a spectacular rhyming scheme, good rhythm, and teaches about the types of train cars! The illustrations are cute, and it's a great bedtime story.

Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site is a modern classic that turns construction vehicles in to sleepy machines that need to rest after a long day of work. It gives children an alternate world where the construction trucks actually have personalities. Steam Train Dream Train does something similar for trains but is illustrated so beautifully that I look through it myself. It's fun to read and there are excellent rhymes but one of the most interesting things is that this book includes almost everything your young boy (or maybe girl) probably likes. Such as? Trains (Obviously), with different types of train cars. Zoo animals riding the train and going to sleep on the train A Dinosaur along with the zoo animals! Monkey's juggling Toys like a plane, Mr Potato Head and blocks Different colors of taker cars A giraffe driving a digger and dumping balls in a train car! Ice Cream Dragsters! An of course a toy train at the end. Everything wraps up nicely with a boy sleeping soundly in bed. My 2.5 year old just loves it and it is a staple for us at bedtime and I imagine will be for many years. We check out a lot of books from the library as these are not cheap but this one is worth buying. A new classic!

After reading him, Goodnight, goodnight Construction Site, I knew that he would love this book! The illustrations are so rich and beautiful; and looks like it took a lot of work! I can only imagine what the original storyboards looked like, just breathtaking! Its a simple story, nothing too deep and just the right tempo to keep the attention spans of little ones. We read it often because he just loves this one and "Construction", so much! Funny, that I saw some bad ratings and nasty complaints about how they didn't like the book because of storyline or something. Really? That is just plain ridiculous! Its a child's story, we're not talking War and Peace, here; and if your kid doesn't like it, donate it to your local library and move on but to trash a kid's book because of lack of story line is just insane. I think some people forgot what it was like to be a kid and have an imagination, not worry about a grown-up storyline.

Bought the boardbook version of this book. My kids love goodnight goodnight construction site and I knew they’d love this book too. The story is great, they enjoy reading it BUT if I were to do it again I would order the full size version. The boardbook is nice for traveling and durability but the pictures have so many fun details that are hard to see in the smaller boardbook size. The colors also don’t pop as much - I looked at the full size book in a store and wished I had gotten that version instead. When we read the boardbook I let my kids hold the flashlight on my phone up to the pages so they can really take it all in.

Highly Recommend - I live near a railroad and can time the trains. It's perfect timing when we read to the end and hear the train whistle.

This is the book that we had in heavy bed-time rotation with our three-year old son for a solid six months before he asked for something different. PROS: - Beautifully written and illustrated with lots of activity on each page for kids to look over. - The story encourages advanced vocabulary as well as promotes cool-down and prep for bed. - Kids can relate to the story and my son was able to pick up on the wording quite quickly thanks to the rhyme and rhythm. CONS: - Hardcover with paper pages, so watch out with the little ones. Might be a good plan to take the slip-cover off, too. We didn't and now, sadly, it is no longer with us. - A little longer, takes decent attention span to stick it out on the little person's part.

Great story to put children to sleep especially if they’re into trains! The rhymes are beautiful to read.

Nice story for trains lover. Good for bedtime readings (not too big or heavy). The book is made with good quality.

My grandnephew loved the story & the colourful animals.

My 4 year old son loves this book! Almost everything kids (especially little boys) love is packed into this book. The train itself, but also animals, construction vehicles, toy trucks, a giant sandbox, balls to play with, dinosaurs, ice cream, everything. It's like the author did a survey of everything little boys love, and included everything in one book - all tied in to the theme of a steam engine setting off on its journey. It's very well done!
