Shark Professional Portable Garment Steamer for Clothes with Heated Wrinkle Eraser Technology (GS500)

This just came today and I've already opened it up and gave it a test drive. I hate ironing so I was excited to make this purchase. So far I've steamed two pieces of my husband's clothing. The first is a dress shirt that has been awaiting ironing for months. I mean, probably 6 months or more. Did I tell you I hate ironing? Thankfully, he doesn't own too many shirts that need to be ironed. The steamer worked great. I had to go over the buttons several times (probably since the shirt has been hanging in my laundry room with all it's wrinkles since the dawn of time). He also has one pair of jeans that, for some crazy reason, come out of the dryer very wrinkled. Maybe because it's my first time using it, maybe because I have the steamer pad on an open door, but it didn't work as well on the jeans. Don't get me wrong, they look a whole lot better than they did before, just there are a few stubborn wrinkles that I gave up on. I'm looking forward to not ironing in the future.

I bought this steamer on the recommendation of my wedding dress designer. Since I was traveling for the wedding, I'd either have to find a local cleaner I trusted, or steam the dress myself on arrival. Given the risks, I decided to buy this ahead of time and try it out on the silk curtains in my living room. Since then, I've used it not only on the curtains and dress, but blouses, cotton shirts, slacks, skirts... you name it. It gets hot very quickly, and has a decent-sized reservoir. The long cord meant a was able to finish an entire room of curtains (6 50" panels) without finding a new outlet mid-way. The various covers make this steamer very versatile, giving the right amount of steam for everything from silk tanks to a wool tuxedo. The one caution I'd offer is to CONSTANTLY wipe the head with a dry cloth to catch any condensation. Do this every 20-30 seconds if you're using the steamer for a prolonged period, even if you don't think you need to. I failed to notice the condensation often enough and left water marks on some of my curtains as a result. Once I started wiping whether or not I thought I needed to, I was able to finish another room of curtains without any issues. Highly recommended for most any household use, although it's pretty large for travel. Not worth the luggage space in my opinion unless you have, say, a wedding dress to steam when you get to your destination.

I love this thing and use it all the time. We had a large steamer and it was too much work to fill and use. This one I keep in my bathroom vs laundry room. It is nice and compact. I hang the pad on the back of my bathroom door. It is not the best at getting out deep wrinkles from heavy materials (like mens cotton slacks), but is great on lighter wrinkles and excellent for those materials you worry about burning with an iron. I used for my daughters cap and gown and was done in about 1 minutes, whereas with an iron, I would have had to use a pillow case or towel to protect.

I ordered a new item and I received an item that had missing parts. I ordered this product to give as a gift. However, the outside of the box had a piece cut off. When I looked at the sealed box top, I could clearly see that there was more than one layer of tape, indicating that it had been opened before. So when I opened it to check the contents inside, I found items missing. These items were the larger steam bonnet, one of the velcro clips, and the bristle brush frame. Also the vertical press pad looked like it had some debris on it. This product is my favorite steamer. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT MISSING PARTS AND A DIRTY PRESS PAD.

This steamer comes with a collapsible terry cloth board to hang on the back of your door with clips to hold your clothes in place while you steam which work great. It has several attachments for the steamer for different applications such as drape panels etc. It works really well. It is a little on the heavy side but my 12 year daughter uses it to steam out her school uniforms so it isn't that heavy. We are glad we bought it and we find that we use it a lot on many of our clothes. Shark makes quality products.

Did a pretty good job while it worked--the press bar is very handy and the amount of steam is good. Was never great for small details (collars and cuffs) because the bar is large and blunt. The body does get quite hot. I like the board it came with a lot. Now that it's broken I will not be buying the same one again--looking at Rowenta or Conair. ___update___ I am trying out the ~$60 Conair model (got it from Target). It works better than this Shark did. The spatial separation between the press bar and the steam escape in the Shark doesn't actually make sense--the Conair model combines these into one and ends up getting the wrinkles out more effectively. Particularly this is better for collars and cuffs! The one flaw is that the Conair does spit out water occasionally, which the Shark never did, but that's really not a big deal for me. Finally, I can see from that start the the Conair is quite flimsy--one fall and the water tank will shatter, as will the crease bar. I think the lesson here is that if you have the space and the money, invest in a floor model like the Jiffy--that's what the rest of the internet recommends. I haven't tried and and am not ready to commit to it, but that $60 Conair investment will not go far, I can see now.

We travelled to a destination wedding and I had to steam everyones clothes for the wedding with our new Shark Press and I was VERY happy with the results and how compact it is to take with you. Great purchase :)

Works good. Takes out the wrinkels quickly and easy. Can get heavy when you have few items to do though
