best for emergencies
Great as an emergency light source when "The Big One" hits - (I live in CA ) They use those ubiquitous tea lights (buy a bag at IKEA for a couple of bucks) and get around 2+ hrs of light per candle. Alternate a pair and you at have light all night. Pretty much windproof and you can store several more in the lantern itself (when not in use) -= admittedly only about 1 candlepower, but fairly foolproof - I give 'em as gifts to unprepared friends - put a matchbook or box of matches in there too and you're set.

Works fine.
Keeps a tea candle burning. Not super bright, but what do you expect from a tea candle?

Dose not have the base like in the picture very disappointed
Dose not have the base like in the picture very disappointed. Without the base to hold another candel and keep it from falling over this is just a cheap ornament.

Nice little candle lantern. Adds warmth, ambiance, and light. Affordable.
A candle lantern has the advantage of adding a little warmth to a tent and helping keep condensation off the sides of the tent wall. I hang one inside my tent and let it burn all night. It provides low light for about six hours in case somebody has to get up to go to the toilet without fumbling around looking for a flashlight and waking others up with a bright flashlight. It also acts as a nightlight to make camping a little less spooky for those who need some reassurance.I have used this tea candle lantern for more than ten years with good results. Despite being roughly packed and roughly handled in my camping supply boxes, the globe has never broken. It is small and lightweight. There is a hole under where the tea candle sits. I put a small piece of folded aluminum under the tea candle to plug this hole to prevent wax from splashing out in case somebody bumps the candle. You can put about three tea candles inside this lantern during transport so you have spares at camp. If you do not need the heat from the candle, you can get little battery powered tea candles that offer low light without the flame. They would also fit into this lantern.FYI: The photos in the advertisements for this lantern on Amazon are VERY misleading:1. The candles do not put out enough light to use for walking around AND if you did the wax would spill all over.2. The tops of these lanterns get VERY scortching hot. There is a photo of a toddler holding one of these lanterns. That would be VERY dangerous indeed, not only for the fire risk, but because a child would surely burn their fingers on the top of the lantern eventually. This lanter, like all flame lanterns are not appropriate nor are they safe for children.
