Find the right replacement filter True HEPA Allergen Remover HEPAClean® QuietClean® AirGenius® Pre-filters captures large particles/reduces odors Medium captures allergens/ small particles Permanent Washable Permanent Washable This portable air cleaner is recommended for filtering the air in a closed room as large as 168 square feet (12 by 14 feet). As it continuously circulates a room's air--about six times per hour--it employs two filters to remove smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Especially useful for asthmatics and allergy sufferers, the cleaner contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping extremely tiny particles (as small as 0.3 microns) while a prefilter reduces odors. Honeywell's IntelliCheck system permits monitoring the filters' lives. Each filter has a button. Pressing a button activates a light, which blinks or shines steadily. One blink indicates that the filter has lots of life remaining, two blinks means less life, three blinks means even less, and a steady light indicates the filter needs changing. The HEPA filter lasts one to three years; the prefilter, three months. Filter replacement is simple, and replacement filters can be ordered separately. The air cleaner has three speeds, and all are exceptionally quiet for an air cleaner this large and powerful. It carries a five-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Best Thing I Have Done
All I can say is WOW!! This thing works! We have had it for 6 weeks, and just changed the wrap filter. It is a black blanket-style filter that goes around the car-looking filter (see the photos). All that stuff was going into our lungs from our master bedroom. I have asthma. I clean. We took out all the carpet in the house and put in tile. We don't even have throw rungs or area rugs. I dust and mop weekly. We noticed the room was easier to breath in the first day. We liked the white noise it makes to sleep with. When we still didn't know just how well it would work, but we felt better, we decided to order on a month until the entire house was as nice to be in as our bedroom. Now we know. All I can say is, "holy crap!"I also ordered more of the blanket filters. After reading the reviews I ordered a non-name brand. It really does look and feel like the one that come in the machine. I will order those again as needed.I knew I really liked these air cleaners, but I had no idea until today how much. I will be buying more of them.

Filters for this have a strong plastic smell that never goes away
I'm sorry to give this such a negative review, but I have to. What sucks is that the machine itself works great. The problem is the plastic/rubber parts on the HEPA filters. They give off a strong "new plastic/rubber" smell that never goes away.I've tried wiping down the rubber areas with some soap and water (not the paper part of the filter) and I've tried running the unit for a week, non-stop, hoping to get rid of the "new plastic" smell. It doesn't happen. It gets a little less, but it's always there. I even ordered a new set of filters after about a year, and the new set was even worse - because now you have to stack two filters for this model - which is double that plastic smell. What's the point of having an air purifier, if the air purifier puts "plastic smells" into the air? It gives me a headache if I'm in the same room, so I'm not able to use this much. If I run it at all, I do it while I'm in another room, then turn off the air purifier and air out that room before I go back in.The machine itself works well. It does pull particles out of the air. Unfortunately the filters for it put plastic smells INTO the air and that plastic smell never goes away completely, no matter how long its run and how often you change the outer charcoal filters. It's a really stupid and unfortunate flaw in a machine that would otherwise be ok.

1 year later....dropped to 1 star
When i first got this Honeywell air cleaner I LOVED it. worked great for a little over a year. If you want the down and dirty part scroll down to the asterisks.First of all, yes, I read negative reviews. But was sure that wouldn't be the case for me. I'm a little OCD. I never leave small electrics plugged in during a storm. I wasn't using this 24 hours a day. I had no reason to let it run all night while I was sleeping. AND i actually DO read all of the instructions and warnings. I cleaned the thing religiously. SO, none of that stuff they wrote about would happen to ME. Right? WRONG.**************I turned it off on my way to bed one night. Then turned in on the next day. Low setting like always. nothing happened. so i did the usual stuff. Checked the plug, breakers, etc. Then opened the side to see what i could see. PEW! Strong smell of electrical burning. If you've smelled it once you forever recognize it. Can't really get to the motor part and didn't want to. (that negates the warranty on almost anything if you start unscrewing stuff). Anyway, good thing there is a fiver year warranty, right? WRONG. yes, there is a warranty. however, the cost of shipping i would have to pay BOTH WAYS is around a third of the cost of the unit. AND, to make matters worse, they don't have to send a new unit. they can choose to fix the one you sent. hmmm. And no option for refund? hmmm. Do i really want something that, even when babied, can burn? YIKES. so glad i never slept with this thing on.At this point, i honestly don't know what to do. Take a chance? Have a fire? Pay for two-way shipping to get a "maybe fully repaired", previously defective unit? ummmm. I'm actually scared to do that. Suggestions anyone? At any rate, if you look at buying this unit as a short term item and NEVER leave or sleep with it on..... maybe it'd be ok? Like i said, originally i loved it. Now......SCARY.

Not built to last! Got 4 months out of it.
Like other reviewers, I found this unit a bit loud but I didn't mind because I figured the white noise would be great for the new sleeping baby.I believe Honeywell, who I thought had a great reputation for quality, is making these machines cheaper and cheaper. After 4 months of use and no indication that the filter needed to be changed, it just stopped turning on. No apparent reason.Being a handy person, I tried to fix it by opening it up, but the design makes it impossible to get the angle you need to expose the motor. It is not meant to be fixed. They do cover it under my warranty, but now I have to pay shipping (and it's heavy!) if I want a new one. This is not sustainable and a bit irresponsible of them to design it so that there's no way to fix it. No one in consumer relations at Honeywell even wanted to coach me on how to troubleshoot (not surprising).I miss the old days when we didn't waste so much and you could fix a machine to last you years and years. I'd happily pay double for a unit that I know is going to last!

Might burn your house down,
My wife woke me up yelling there was smoke in the air. Unit was burning hot at the motor and control panel. Burning plastic smoke in my bedroom. Filter was clean. Great job Honeywell. This is the 2nd one of these I've owned (1st one motor quit after a couple years, ok that happens). Call to them said they'd replace it if I sent this one in. Uhh no. I don't trust this thing wont burn my house down when i'm not home. Complete garbage.
