Q: What does the stainless steel banding do? Does it add anything to the function of this steamer?

I also believe it’s for durability/ to hold it together. I’ve been looking for a steamer without metal, but it looks like they’re either held together with adhesive, or some kind of metal, which seems to be either (visible) stainless steel or copper wiring (which isn’t apparent in most of the sellers’ photos).
