Great for Setting the Shot
This works great for setting up multiple cameras on a remote or for setting the camera for the right shot using the GoPro app on iOS or Android. I haven't had an issue getting connected with either OS and it seems to work well. The key seems to be to make sure the firmware is updated properly. When I first tried to update the firmware several months ago, the instructions told me to have the Bacpac connected to the camera but I found I had a difficult time getting it to work. I just removed it and plugged it into the computer and that seems to be the trick. I haven't had a problem updating since then and I have updated a few of these.Overall, they work just fine. I'm not going to review GoPro's lack of competence when it comes to delivering advertised features on time as they consistently fail in that respect with regard to the WiFi apps but hopefully they'll eventually come out with those things sooner rather than later, although I won't hold my breath.

Difficult to Setup, Horrible Documentation, Poor Support
August 1, 2015 - So far, the GoPro Wi-Fi Bac Pac is a huge disappointment. I've already spent four hours trying to follow the instructions on the GoPro site to no avail. It's been one problem after another, complicated immensely by poorly written documentation. Here's a brief synopsis of the nightmare so far.A note in the box says the first thing you need to do is update the firmware. So they KNOW when packaging it that it's out of date. Fair enough. Only one problem: they require you to update the device using the GoPro Studio app. I downloaded it (so I know I have the current version) but, SURPRISE!, it cannot detect the device. Windows can - I installed the device driver and Device Manager sees it and says it's working. Uninstall and reinstall Studio with the device driver still installed but get the same problem. Checked support on the GoPro website. Instructions for my camera (HD HERO 2) and the Wi-Fi Bac Pac are not correct. Sent a support request but get an e-mail saying "due to a high volume of requests for support..." Given my experience so far it's no surprise a lot of people need support.I finally get the GoPro app loaded on my phone but when I try to connect it asks for the password. It says if the device is new I can use the default password but, SURPRISE!, when I enter the default I get an error saying I can't use the default password. I look up how to change the password on the GoPro site. You have to use the Studio app. The very Studio app that can't connect to the brand new Bac Pac. GOTCHA, SUCKER!I call GoPro's 800 number. The person that answers asks the basic "is the Bac Pac connected to a USB port" questions then puts me on hold to "open a ticket." Fifteen minutes later he returns to tell me the instructions to "check" my laptop are so complex that they are sending me a checklist via e-mail. Still waiting for that.If this isn't sorted out this weekend it's going back to Amazon for a refund. GoPro is pushing their new HERO4 cameras hard but, given all the problems I've had with the most basic setup and operation of this device I would be a fool to spend any more with them.Update August 5, 2015: It's been five days since I opened a case with GoPro for support by e-mail and phone. Zero response. So I tried their chat support. Sorry, that's just for orders. (They are very responsive BEFORE they get your money.) Can't help and referred me to their 800 number for technical support. I've been on the line for 59 minutes so far listening to horrible hold muzak and "All GoPro agents are busy at this time..." recordings. (If my experience is typical it's no wonder they are busy. Their software doesn't work and their documentation is terrible.) But I have been using the time productively by packing the Wi-Fi Bac Pac in the original box to return for a refund. If you are brave enough to purchase anything from GoPro PRAY that it works perfectly out of the box. If not, send it back immediately. I can testify from experience that their "support" is the worst I have ever experienced with a tech vendor. I have been an IT professional for decades and know I would be unemployed if the company I work for treated their customers as GoPro does. Caveat emptor!Update August 6, 2015: Finally got through to GoPro Support but they were no help. On my own I figured out that the problem is that the laptop I was using had only USB 3.0 ports. For some reason the GoPro WiFi BacPac absolutely does NOT work with USB 3.0. Fortunately I had an old computer and was able to connect to update the firmware and change the password from the default. If you purchase one of these things you will need an older computer with at least one USB 2.0 port to maintain it. Very odd because USB 3.0 is backwards compatible and the GoPro BacPac is the first device out of dozens I use that have had a problem with USB 3.0.The phone app works (I'm using a Samsung S5) and the other reviews that describe it as slow and choppy are accurate. The main reason I want it is to position the HD HERO 2 camera while mounted on a motorcycle helmet and start it in the correct mode. (No, not while riding! Before starting out.) The tiny LCD on the front panel of the camera is difficult to read in ideal conditions and nearly impossible to read in sunlight. While not perfect, the phone app and Wifi BacPac will let me do what I need.I cannot recommend the Wifi BacPac unless you are desperate to add phone control to an older HERO camera. I had considered upgrading but, given this experience, will wait until I can speak with others using GoPro products before spending the money.

Does not work underwater
I bought this for our trip to Kauai. My wife isn't too keen on snorkling, I am. Since I know what's under the water I wanted her to be able to see it, too. I sideloaded the GoPro app on her Kindle (you listening Amazon???) and got it all working in the house. As a test I dropped it in our reef tank and instantly it stopped transmitting. Well, sort of. It was still transmitting but apparently water garbles the WiFi frequency (so I've read) because pulling it back out of the water, even leaving it halfway submerged, the video reappeared on the Kindle. I fiddled with it and hung my head in shame. Perhaps the GoPro site mentions this, so this is probably all on me, but still a downer nonetheless.Outside of water; however, it shines rather well. The battery stinks and unfortunately GoPro didn't pass power through the connector. I read where if the Backpack battery dies the camera battery will continue powering it. I guess I was hoping that the charging mechanism would also pass through but nope. You need to charge each unit (camera and backpack) separately. It was great on our hike where I put it on a DIY pole, jammed it in my backpack and was able to "see what it saw" on my iPhone. Helped me feel confident the positioning was ideal. So 3 stars because it does what it does well, just not underwater. That would have been pimp.

JUNK JUNK JUNK, shame on GoPro for not having a solution
Just like other reviewers, I have ordered 3 different ones of these Wifi bacpacs, after my original stopped working. My original works better than the "NEW" ones. My original will still at least hook up to wifi and the app, but only if it's plugged in, as soon as I remove the charger, it's DEAD. All 3 that I have ordered and returned, would not even turn on at all, apparently a common problem. Too bad, I have to get a new GOPRO just to use the App now.

GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac
Arrivata in 4 giorni lavorativi. "
