No surprises, just what I expected, great if you want to put in a little extra work.
First of all I want to say that I had very low expectations for these rods. While they won't win any awards for finish, craftsmanship, or build quality, they will do the job. I bought two of these rods to introduce my young children to Tenkara, and they will do nicely for that. When they are broken I won't lose any sleep. I think they honestly deserve three stars, but I would certainly buy this rod again, and recommend it for people with a similar need. I might look for a little longer version next time since they are a bit shorter than advertised. Some specifics that may interest some potential buyers:Material: Fibreglass, and it looks like it may have a bit of carbon thrown in to make it blackAction: it looks to be about 7:3, but a soft rod like you would expect from glass.Segments: 7, Bottom three are blue, and the top four are black.Lillian: it is on the stiff side, but my test line had no problem staying on. I suspect that it will soften up over time. It appears to be attached firmly, although a little rough at the edges. I will put a little gel super glue on the bottom to keep it from fraying. It is an unsanded blank with a rough clear coat. There were a couple of segments on one rod that wouldn't extend, so I took the segments out and sanded them until they moved freely. So, one of the rods now has a sanded blank. The plug is a piece of EVA foam, and the end cap is a cheap plastic deal that screws in to threads that have either been cut out of the glass, or were molded in when the blank was wrapped. To test it out I cut an 8' section of 15lb. Amnesia and attached it to the lillian with a loop/girth hitch. While Amnesia isn't well regarded as a Tenkara line I found that this rod handled it well. It is easy to load the rod, and casting is effortless. It is really hard to under power a cast, but not difficult to over do it.All things being equal I think this rod is perfect for my kids, and I know they will catch fish with sakasa kebari I tied last night.EDIT: As I noted above the rod was shorter than advertised. In reality, it is just so poorly finished that it won't extend to its full length. I spent about 10 minutes sanding off just about all of the finish from the black sections, and after reassembling it is exactly 210cm as advertised. Most of the extra length came from the tip section which almost doubled. While the action was slow in my test, it ended up faster on the stream with a shorter (8') #3.5 Tenkarausa level line, and 4' of 5x tippet. My 8yo son caught his first trout on a fly in Rocky Mountain Natl. Park over the weekend, and he is now a fly fishing convert. The rod performed beautifully.I am adjusting my rating to 4 stars on account of how well the rod performs. In reality if you buy it as a "blank", and know that you will have to put some elbow grease into it you will have a nice short tenkara rod. I made a pine grip for my son's rod, and it turned out very nice.

Good for fishing/micro fishing on a budget
This rod is not a high end ultra flexible rod but it is very small and light, very servicable and very inexpensive. You can easily cast a 15 foot tenkara set-up or simply add 2-3lb line and a number 16 or smaller hook and it works very well for micro fishing but is plenty capable of landing full grown panfish as well. I took my kids to a local park and we were catching creek chubs and tiny green sunfish, with hamburger and chewy dog treat, in a creek that people had frequented for decades with no idea that it had fish in it. The short length made it much easier to cast in and around the brush on the creek bank. I wasn't expecting much at this price but this is a very light and servicable rod at an extremely affordable price. It is very small and fits into a glove box or console. I keep extra hooks, flies and micro floats(strike ondicators) in a small pillbox/micro tackle box and can carry this through the woods in my back pocket. I didn't have any of the quality control problems that some folks mentioned. Mine came in perfect condition. Good construction and finish. No issues. Don't expect Tenkara brand quality and you won't be disapointed. This rod should give you years of fishing fun and at this price anyone can afford to have a few extras to share or replace a worn or broken rod. I have ordered several extras myself. Highly reccomended.

I love this little rod
I love this little rod. Perfect for very small streams and small trout, it will handle some decent sized bluegill, too.UPDATE: After having this thing for over a year, it works great still. It's perfect for small streams where the trees are constantly in your way, or even for pond fishing for gills and small bass. The description now says "plastic" ( it didn't when I bought it) but it feels like any other modern fly rod to me. It might not be graphite or carbon or whatever, but you can't tell when you're fishing it. If you can use a smaller tenkara rod and don't need an 11 footer - and want to try tenkara out - by all means buy this rod. You'll find out quickly if it's "your thing" or not and save a ton of money in the process. There's no need to spend $100 - $300 to "try" tenkara. This will give you all the experience you need to make a decision on whether you like it or not.

Not bad
Its not a Daiwa or Nissin... but for the price, yuh duh! Ive git probably $900 invested in tenkara and keiryu rods... this thing is my all day carry rod. It breaks!? Oh well man. I got a spool of 8# flourocarbon from Academy and works great for ditch fishing and small ponds for bluegill. I would not fish keiryu or heavy flies. I tied a reverse pheasant hackle fly on a size 14 hook. 6x tippet. No tippet ring, just surgeon knotted to the level line. Yeah its clear flourocarbon but in a 8' line, i didnt mind it. For the price??? Yeah. Like i said tho, def not a qaulity rod. But hey!? Its a great abuse rod. Im gonna order 3 more after thus review just so i have backup rods. I fish a ton of small ponds here in FL when i cant get to saltwater. Unless you got a boat, the few piers are blow out and surf fishing is different meal all together. Every 1/4 mile is a pond here. Girlfriend wants to look at shoes, good deal ill be over here fishing for 10 mins.

good value for trying new fishing styles
For the price (under $10 shipped haha), this is a hilarious and fun way to try out tenkara-style fishing. This pole is NOT elegant. This pole does not have delicate presentation. There is nothing delicate or smooth about it. The finish is poor, the joints feel dirty even when not, it smells like the Chinese factory that produced it, and the lillian may fall off the end if you're not careful.BUT it will catch fish, and it's so cheap, you can leave it in your car, give it to a buddy to try out, let your 3 year old son swing it around (no hook please!)... I've caught some small fish on it, and it is fun for sure. Now that I've moved onto real tenkara and keiryu rods with much higher quality, I'll probably give this to a coworker who is interested in trying it out.

大変小型で大変チープ
2016/4/11追記:価格が3000円近く値上がりしました。正直この値段に見合うだけの出来ではありません。この価格であれば星4→1つへ評価を下げざるを得ません。________________知人数名と小物釣りに行くため貸し竿として購入。
